Spot of the day, Part 4

The dry weather seems to have brought the classics out for a Sunday  run ;  spotted on a walk through the village a local builder in his mk1 Escort RS2000 , an H reg Renault 5GT turbo , a yellow Lamborghini SV ( dont know model name , sounded well though ! ) and a dark blue McLaren.  The road leading up to and away from the village is quite challenging and I  would guess the 5 turbo performed better than the lardy,  show off supercars  .

Can't remember the last time I saw any Renault 5, let alone a GT - love those little things!

It looked tiny , in a metallic blue grey type of colour .

Right O, chaps.... How many cars do Bentley produce in a year?

Are they still hand built and individually furnished??

The reason I ask is I took a stroll around Southampton Dock gate 4 the other day, where they were loading one of those car transporter ships. And there's this cohort of Bentleys waiting their turn to go off to China or Saudi or somewhere. Lines and lines of 'em.

And they were still coming......!

How much of their annual output was getting lined up?

Or are they just churned out in the 1000s like any other SUV??

How can a company make such a beautiful coupe, and such an ugly suv at same time!

Nice to see them lined up like that. Says something for British manufacturing. I would be tempted to peel off the plastic covering though

If you think that's ugly , take a look at the Rolls Royce Cullinan .

Sitting in the GP's surgery car park waiting for my covid jab this morning a very tidy looking black Audi Coupe (the original UR quattro shape) went past in the absolute deluge we were having at the time - must be a daily driver or else it would surely have been tucked up in a nice warm, dry garage?!

So odd you saw that today as yesterday I was going to report an immaculate one of these on a C-Plate on my way into work.

Had to go into London today, so wasn't expecting much, and there wasn't a lot on the road unless you count a Triumph Herald or a metallic blue PT Cruiser with flames and orange wheels 😆. But the garages were a different story. The Jaguar garage at Staples Corner has an XK120 (or similar) on show and what I think is an XJC. Obviously at that point I'm having to pay more attention to the North Circular than classic cars so can't be 100%. Then, on the way back home I was waiting in the queue for the traffic lights outside Hendon Way Motors who always have lovely cars in. And I think the window I was next to is the best I've seen yet - bright orange Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder was the least desirable of the three in that bit of the showroom, along with a couple of Ferraris. Not just your bog standard Ferraris either - a red Daytona and a grey what looked like a 275 coupe. Appreciate it's a cheat putting up cars in a showroom rather than on the road, but think these two deserve a bit of leeway :)

Was in the car park at work the other day preparing to leave when a workmate on the opposite shift pulled in, in a new to him, Chev Corvette C5, Silver Grey, red accented interior & a 6 speed Tremec shifter. It sounded fantastic. :)

I never mind queueing by Hendon Way Motors 😂 the Daytona has been there for years! I should make an offer

saw a cream Karmann Ghia in Billericay today, but it was going in the other direction so no picture. It looked immaculate, but you never can tell when you don’t get close

Spotted the first of those electric number plates today. It had a green stripe on the side where ‘GB’ normally goes. As it was on a Tesla, I’m not sure whether it was necessary!

Followed a V-reg Porsche 924 Turbo for a while today. Driven by an older gentleman who nearly came to grief twice entering roundabouts - he either wasn't looking, or believed traffic on the roundabout should give way to him.  Despite his driving, the car appeared to be in decent condition.

Haha! I bet he’s one of those drivers that’s never been in an accident (but sees them all the time in his mirror!)

i do do like a 924, I have the unpopular view that it’s a nicer shape than the 944

Here’s my “spot of (paint color) of the day”, a Pearl rose VW bug. I think the paint shop used Tamiya TS-59 light red Pearl lacquer on this one.  Bugs use to be plentiful in California but are getting quite rare. I’m no expert but this appears to be a late ‘60’s pre- super beetle, the last of the classic bugs before the ugly bumper years. spacer.png

Not a colour I'd choose for a VW but it looks very nicely done.  Assuming the side marker lights/reflectors are original equipment, that would mean it was post 1968 (when side marker lights became a Federal requirement).

I think those little vents behind the rear windows make it 1970 onwards.

Today was the day of the hairy-chested sports car.

First was an Austin Healey spotted through the kitchen window at work (and heard before it was seen).  It was a lovely two-tone grey upper with maroon side panels and I think it was either a Mk.1 3000 or earlier as I'm sure it was a car designed for side screens.  There is an Austin Healey specialist near my office, so it's not unusual to see cars arriving, leaving or being road tested.

Second was on my drive home, some sort of Cobra replica in shiny black with a hard top.  Couldn't get close enough to tell much more about it.

I like that first Lotus Cortina.  However, if the '70 Charger is anything to go by, I wouldn't put much faith in their descriptions. 🤨🤐

More interesting machinery spotted over the last couple of days.

A yellow Triumph TR6 parked outside a local garage, on Thursday a Ferrari F355 in dark blue and a Ferrari California in the same colour and being driven along the same road at about the same time a day later.

None of which were as appealing as the classic Renault van that was being used to provide free coffee for NHS staff (including yours truly) in the work car park on Friday.
