Greg Law
I would like to join with this Dragon Me 163 B-1a 1/48 scale. Out of the Box build. Like Alistair this is to give me a break from my Do 17z build.
Mottlemaster
Glad you decided to get this one off the shelf. I built one many years ago when it first came out. Could have been the trimester brand but same plastic After the Do17 this will be a dose of Plastic Prozac
Col.
A great choice of kit for a straightforward and rewarding project Greg. Welcome to the GB
Greg Law
Thanks guys. Well this one will not be a non starter. I’ve black based and given the cockpit the main coat of RLM66. I think this is going to be a quick build. Made faster by my new spray booth.
Mottlemaster
I'v over done my paint mixing for the 163 every time so far as the do 17 took large amount to cover . At 1/48 yours will be minute quantities , even the rlm 76 .
Greg Law
Just to show progress is being made. I know I have to re-glue the seat belt. I have hand painted the instrument panel.

Greg Law
I have to wait a few days for the masks to turn up. They are a bit late.
Greg Law
I'm adding another build to this thread. I bought this at the same time as the main Me 163 kit and promised to build both. It is the first Komet. Me 163A This is a 1/48 short run Flashback kit. After dry fitting the main parts it looks an easy build. Simple RLM02 scheme.
Mottlemaster
Looks like a very simple kit. Will make a good contrast to the operationally version. Looks like a productive weekend would see it built and painted.
Col.
The A will make for an interesting comparison to the -b model
Greg Law
It will also go well with my He 280. I also did some work on the main Me 163B yesterday. I plan to do the A's cockpit today and see if I can catch it up to the B.

Greg Law
Just to let you know progress is being made on this project. Painted the green top colour today. I will put an image up when the Rlm81 and RLM82 scheme is painted.should be this weekend.
Greg Law
This is my latest progress. Plane painted and decaling underway. There is a black ring decal border to go on the yellow nose. I'm afraid I'm out of RLM04. The yellow is more muddy than it shows here.
Col.
Excellent progress Greg. That yellow nose must have started to look worn and tatty on the real machine fairly quickly I'd have thought so better not to be too perfect
Greg Law
Yes it will get a bit of weathering.

Greg Law
Don't worry Pat it is still happening. I've just been a little distracted by nautical things the last few weeks.
Greg Law
My Me 163 B-1 is getting close to finishing now. Will done by the weekend. I had a lot of trouble getting the open skid on. In the end I have given up and chosen to have it closed. Anyway I'm happy with the result.
Greg Law
This project will be delayed a few days. We have very high humidity here at the moment. Making it very risky to give the plane it's final clearcoat. Also the masks I used on the canopy didn't work very well. I won't be using that brand again. As a result I need to give it a bit more of a cleanup. Definitely too humid today. I painted some parts on mt S-38 this morning and my glasses fogged up. Greg Law
I will finish the the Me 163-b1 today. I should be able to get photos in the next few days. I'm not happy with the canopy and on top of that this idiot forgot to remove the internal masks that were on the inside of the Fuselage windows. Fortunately they are black. Finished. Definitely not one of my best builds. I used a bit of brass wire for the pilot tube because a plastic one wouldn't survive five minutes with me. I will do galley images in a few days.
Mottlemaster
Bummer about the forgotten masks but model still looks fine. Congrats on completing it.
Greg Law
Well I have decided I still have a few days, so I have used Isopol thinner to remove the bad canopy paint work and dipped it in Future. I managed to get the saddle off with no damage and removed the interior masks. Sometimes you have to say things are not good enough to accept and do something about it.
