Fujimi 1/72 F-86F Sabre questions

I just got a set of 1/72 F-86F-40 decals for the Royal Thai Air Force. Looking at the Fujimi kits listed in Scalemates, I can't tell if they ever made an actual F-86F-40 variant, or just changed the markings.

Does anybody know if they did an actual 1/72 F-86F-40 Sabre with the extended wingtips & 6-3 leading edge, and if so which boxing would it be?

As far as I know, yes.  The Japanese Blue Diamond aerobatic team kit is definitely an F-40 Sabre.  There was also a double boxing with South Korean and Philippine AF markings, and the South Korean was also an F-40.

in addition to the above mentioned; is Fujimi kits # F-18, F-20 and F-58, are JASDF releases as F-86F-40.

Thanks for that info. I just didn't see any differences on the instructions or sprue shots.

Hi Larry

Well you  have to look for the fuel tanks!!! the are 2 kinds the ones for normal Korea era and the fin less Misawa big fuel tanks

only other option is the use of AIM-9 Sidewinders

Other than that if the wings include the extension

Armando

PD Sadly there is no bombs of fighter bomber version of Fujimmi kits

Hi Armando,

Yes, I definitely need a kit that has the Misawa tanks, as that is the tanks used by the Royal Thai AF.

For info, in the various Fujimi kits, you get the 120-gal drop tanks without 'stuka' end plates and the later finless forced-ejection 200-gallon Pastushin tanks.

I'm pretty sure the Fujimi kits don't include Misawa tanks.

EDIT: No Misawa tanks on Thai F-86Fs.

The good news is that the Pastushin tanks are correct for a Thai F-86F (Misawa tanks were not used on Thai F-86Fs).

Gents - Misawa tanks were used mainly/only during the Korean War. They were NOT used by MAP recipients and are NOT included in the kits listed above. I think the only Sabre kit which has Misawa tanks is the 1/48 Academy F-86F.

To clarify, this is the PASTUSHIN tank, which is fitted to many late/foreign-export F-86Fs. It is a forced-ejection tank and is the only F-86 drop tank which separates from its pylon when ejected; all others either do not jettison (early ferry tank), or jettison with the pylon (so no pylon remains on the aircraft). It is the Pastushin tank which is included in many of the Fujimi kits, NOT the Misawa tank.

Pastushin

Note that the Pastushin tank sweeps up at the back to form an asymmetric taper. It also has no fins.

And this is the MISAWA tank; as mentioned, I've only ever seen it fitted to F-86E/F during the Korean War, and IIRC it is only included in one kit - the 1/48 Academy version. Note that the Misawa tank has a symmetrical taper at the rear (no up-sweep) and also has two very prominent fins at the aft end. It has a constant-section mid portion, unlike the NAA 'banana' drop tanks.

Thanks Sabrejet

I was with the misconception that the large finless fuel tank was called Misawa, my mistake

Armando @RAGATIGER,

No worries: every day is a school day, and rarely does one pass when I don't learn something new :) Glad to have helped. Incidentally the Pastushin tank was subject to a US patent:

One thing I noticed about the Fujimi Sabres are the too square air brakes. Just thought I would point it out.

Yes it's one of the few issues I have with these kits.

001b

I adjusted mine by gluing in a wedge at the lower edge and then sanding it flush to the fuselage side:

003 (4)

003 (12)

You'll need to trim the speed brake panel too, but it does work as a quick fix.
