Zvezda 1/72 Mi-24A Hind

Recommended Posts

Hello, Britmodellers! 👋

This snowy time I want to start the build of the Soviet Attack Helicopter that I always wanted to have in my collection:  the «A» version of the world-famous Mi-24 Hind. It’ll be the companion build along with our fellow forum member Johnny (@The Spadgent) and he’s already started his own thread that can be found here👏

The weather is amazing this week, it’s a pleasure for me looking at all these (Christmas 🎄) trees:

Despite that Johnny is already showed us the box and the sprues, I don’t want to upset the tradition and will start from showing you the box (with a beautiful artwork) and its content:

The backside with the pictures of builded unpainted kit (actually, I love this style of product representation):

50648148092_433e2bd650_k.jpg

The sturdy cardboard box can be found inside the soft top box and it’s full of plastic:

I don’t know why, but this kit looks like a gem for me! 😍

OK, let’s talk about the runners...

The runner A with the port-side fuselage half, engine covers and stabilators:

Next is the runner B with the rotor blades and wings:

50648055711_1cecfc3005_k.jpg

The blades moulded slightly drooped (looks well, but it can be a problem building the kit in-flight):

50647309198_7563cf6701_k.jpg

The runner C (unique for the Mi-24A) with its veranda-styled forward fuselage part:

50648055516_08f2978b0d_k.jpg

The quality of moulding is amazing with such an accurate recessed panel lines and all the surface details:

50648148367_61414dfab9_k.jpg

The clear runner D with the canopy glazing and windows:

50647310028_6d14b8f1f4_k.jpg

And the runner F with the starboard fuselage half and engines:

50647309263_b71e698836_k.jpg

Our beloved gearbox:

50648056446_9ea1080c9d_k.jpg

And an engines itself:

50647309153_019605fcea_k.jpg

The decal sheet is a bit spartan, but well-printed and have a transparent decal film:

50648056271_c6eac619f9_k.jpg

Also there’s an instruction sheet and aftermarket PE set from the Microdesign:

50648056796_1f24d41885_k.jpg

It’s an excellent set with some amount of the coloured parts:

50648148927_089d088d93_k.jpg

In addition to all these goodies I have a canopy masking set (I’ve never tried it before):

50647309538_196df9b964_k.jpg

The resin wheels set isn’t available at the moment, so I’ll stick with the kit ones.

Well, let’s start! 😋

I decided to go with the wheels and all the small stuff at first, so at the moment I’m already have some bits and bobs assembled:

Building these parts was exciting and it’s very pleasurable kit, I must admit... 😸

Awesome intro dear sir. 😃 Makes my slap dash set of pics look very amateurish. 😯

I’m very much looking forward to this dual  build, I think our build styles will compliment each other nicely.  How exciting. 😍

Johnny

Ps. Does your “C” runner have a “C” on it? Mine says “A”

I'll check the sprue later, but I'm sure there's no difference between them.

Ooh, this looks interesting! The kit looks excellent, it's a shame they don't do World War One subjects - a good Ilya Muromets would be wonderful, although I might actually have mine finished by the time one ever appears!

The Zvezda started with a very patriotic WWII era kits, and now represent the Modern Times. Who knows, maybe in the future? 🧐

Just checked: mine says the same (as with the «7273» number on it, it was supposed to be the first sprue of this kit).

Also I recommend you to check the fit of the forward landing gear bay: with my subassemblies it’s a bit aft and it’ll cause the bad fit between the forward and the main fuselage parts.

More things to come... 😺

So, it’s time for the first update in this year! 🎅

Some parts were upgraded with PE bits and bobs:

The forward undercarriage well has a three ugly ejector pin marks, so I used a spare plates to imitate its ceiling. Looks good after all.

Also I drilled an exhaust pipes and fitted them on engines:

More progress to come... Happy New Year! 🎄☃️

Lovely work. Interesting how we are building slightly different. I have attached the back wall to the base and left the roof. You are doing it the other way around. 😀 I’m loving this building at the same time malarkey. 😍👍

Meanwhile, I have some progress on the Hind (fitted the doors on the starboard side):

50745494963_de7d279b7f_k.jpg

I wasn’t satisfied with the results and used the sprue glue to fill some gaps.

Then I rescribed the panel lines and now it looks like this:

50800524867_1b5e13df7e_k.jpg

Also I fitted some PE parts inside (there’s a lot more to add):

50746230991_6655465eb5_k.jpg

Soon I realised that I glued the port side engine bay door on the starboard side (the square one on the top)! 😖 But it fits excellent... So I decided not to remove it and move forward.

The forward fuselage part was assembled for testing the fit of its internals:

Looks good, fits good (after some forward undercarriage well treatment):

That’s all for today, folks! Have a nice modelling week! 😎

Looking grand. Shame about the hatch but I won’t say anything if you won’t. 🤫Soooo are you closing all the doors and hatches? I thought you were having them open? Either way she’s looking splendid. Bravo. 👏👏👏👏

Yes, it’s a shame but I can live with it. 🤐

I want to close them on the starboard side (except an engine shroud), but with the windows opened:

I think I’ll be able to do this trick with the PE parts and some additions. 😉
