Thanks. I know how lucky is that! 👌

I recommend you to place it a bit forward (to hide its front wall):

It was a shaft and it has a bad moulding offset...

...and it needed to be replaced, anyway.

Mine will be replaced with a stainless steel needle. 😉

I told you so! 😺

«Never empty the bin before the work is over»: I find this rule is very useful for both job and home.

I’m glad that you not lost the parts, Johnny! 👍 The progress looks great. I’ll update my thread soon, stay tuned!

Thanks Nikolay. I’m going to live by that bin rule from now on.

I'm here, late to the party as usual........and a good start has been made to this excellent kit. Now I've got 3 Hind builds to enjoy.

Might just have to get one myself, you two guys are having too much fun, I wanna see what it's all about.

My Mi-26 is positively yelling from the stash, it will have to wait.

I'll take a seat in the front stalls and enjoy the progress, snow matter how long it takes.........

Rog

Build her. You won’t be disappointed.

Hide the front wall. 🤔🤔 it always makes me twitch when there are connecting points and I don’t use them. I’m sure it’ll be fine but my internal alarm bells rang. Thinking about moving the structure and what that did to the front wheels so taking a slightly different approach I shaved a little off the front wall. Does the trick. 😀

50808721046_00e160a7ce_b.jpg

I also popped the bits on the engines and did a tidy.

50807978873_1827821889_b.jpg

The detail is great. 🤩

Now as I has a squeezing issue on the 1/48 one I went for a dry run.

50808833332_19cd3247b2_b.jpg

The wheel well is used as a joining point. You can just see it in the gap. But “Gap” 🤔 it’s the internal floor that’s a little too wide so I gave it a bit of a shave with a blade and everything slid into place.

50807978943_0ee75df3b3_b.jpg

I know there’s a tiny gap but with glue that’ll be fine.

Wocca Wocca shot. 🤩🥳🤤

more tonight.

Oh yes, I did the same thing a few days ago... Lovely picture! 😺

Also, the hole on the underside of the nose if for the part D8 (it’s clear - I think it’s a landing light), it’s not mentioned in instruction sheet. 😉

Great progress, Johnny!

It has been interesting seeing the dual build with Nikolay.

Also interesting seeing your build of the 1/48th version in the background.  You mentioned the squeezing issue on the bigger bird.  Are you finding similar fit issues between the two?

Cheers,

Chris

So yes there is no light to add? Are the instruction correct?

Thanks Chris. It’s fun doing a dual build. 😇😇

There are similar issues between the kits but mostly they’re a really good fit. I think the second one is easier as I know what to expect. 😎

Good evening you lot. Just a little on this wonder as my time has been taken up with the rivet queen.

I have decided to move over here for a time for a bit of a break. So not the most exciting of updates but there is primer. Which means PAINT! 😍😍😍

The main office area.

50853422441_fb05971881_b.jpg

Rear seat. I have decided not to use the PE part for the head rest.

50853422421_ac06f6281e_b.jpg

Engine bay and fire wall.

50853422431_acf7731d25_b.jpg

Main rotor gear.

50852698133_608ca6587a_b.jpg

Pilots seat.

50852698158_7db1df6c5b_b.jpg

Aaaaand engines.

50853422451_12f3c9aeca_b.jpg

I’m down to my last tin of primer so I have ordered a bunch from the bay.
Expect more soon as the booth is in operation.

Take care dear friends and as always.

Happy moddeling.

Awesome! 👏 Which Tamiya colours were chosen for this Hind, Johnster? I’m planning to use my favourite Mr.HOBBY jars, but it’ll be interesting to know about your approach.

I’ll reply to all later on but this question has stumped me. The call outs are for Humbrol . I was going for the green one as I like the star on the decals.

there are no conversions for 120 light green and 117 US light green. Does anyone out there have any ideas what I might be able to use? Olive?

I use Tamiya by the way.

Thanks again for any help.

Johnny

*Edit.
I was looking at the other hind colours as they are called out in Tamiya shades but they seem wrong.
The box looks Sandy.

50579025366_c7878883f3_b.jpg

The sheet looks green.

50579024901_5394116c73_b.jpg

And the paint is grey???

50859573881_bcbc1ae641_b.jpg 50858854028_9a9645259d_b.jpg

What the hayelllll? I think I’ve just found the CrAzY part in zvezda.

Any help would be much appreciated. ❤️

Do the colours really matter? can I choose one that I like and the decal scheme will be ok?

- I had the surprise to find these paints in the ARMA issued kit I got by exchange  with a friend "who konw the man, who know the man, who know the man who have seen the bear" ( Translation of a French proverb)

- The artificial light and the brush painted cardboard sample doesn't render the exact shades  but this may gives an idea; They are rather greenish and the lighter one look as it is a lightened color of the darker other. I used them for the test I made for the rivets on the 48 scale model. I still don't know wether I'll use them or not.

QoGmKM.jpg

-The Tamiya green is too green and the sand too light. I would have investigate the Mr COLOR H 73 Dark green and Tamiya XF 60 dark yellow or XF 59 Desert Yellow- The XF 60 looking closer

- Did you consider the AKAN range ?

I can recommend you to try the Mr.HOBBY paint (H303 for Hu 117 and H312 for Hu 120). These conversions are most accurate.

The Tamiya’s paint range is very limited, so the Zvezda’s painting instructions aren’t so precise. Just wrong in some cases. 😑

These colours looks better than the suggested in instruction ones, maybe it’ll a good choice!

It’s always a struggle to get the right colours every time we’re going to build a Hind! 😹

Thanks for the info. I will other paints but I still can’t seem to find the right answer. For the 1/48 kit I was looking at pics and noticed when flicking through here that the colours look right.

Maybe the green is a little light but the colours seem ok. So I just do t know.

So many different colours and shades. I think I might pick a close one and run with it. I hope your riveting is going well.

There’s a misprint: Zvezda 30 is a grey (and it’s close enough to XF-80), but it must be Zvezda 19 (XF-71 as they said).

Hope it helps... 😬

Thanks for the help. Im still not sure. Are you positive it’s a miss print?

One of the other schem es calls for xf-71 which is cockpit green. This sounds odd but I found this.

50860914976_c720079dd0_b.jpg

Which matches XF-71 I might go with the Grey or more yellow  for the 1/48 one and this scheme for our smaller build.  What’s wrong with green and brown. 😩

Goode evening.

well aside from paint questions I have managed some more work on this lovely kit.

I noticed my partner in crime had added the sheet metal on his internal wall.

the instructions aren’t so clear but it looks as though you get the option to have these on or off so I chose off to be different to Nikolay.

50861063887_3b74281501_b.jpg

And the other side

50860971562_5942520654_b.jpg

I’m not adding the top door as this will be shut I’ll add the windows after paint like her big sister.

I’ll also add these afterward.

50860160468_947a102944_b.jpg

The rear seat got primed and bets glued at the connection points ready for bending tomorrow. A few more cockpit bits got primed ready for paint.

Thanks for popping by.

Hope you’re having a splendid week.

Yes. There's an instruction sheet for the corresponding 72nd scale kit: Mi-24V/VP Hind E.

XF-71 will be good, I think.

Good work so far, Johnny! 👍 Yes, the Microdesign's instructions aren't so clear in some cases and I often look for more information over the Web.

They seem different again to the 1/48 colours. I think I might just wing it. Seems like any colours go if they’re kinda right if you know what I mean.

Good evening everyone. Plenty done today. I spent a good bit of time messing with colours But I think progress has been made.
More snow was had so apart from speeding and snow ball fights later on the first part of Sunday morning was spent bench side.

50871381747_4527a2a525_b.jpg

The last bits to get primed were the fuselage halves.

50871509622_5700dd2e4b_b.jpg

aaand I had to get the cargo seat belts on.

50871511027_985cfaf672_b.jpg

Now all that is out of the way I can get on with a pre shade. 🤩

The main office.

50871511197_cf7fa6a065_b.jpg

Cargo hold.

50871509607_aae194d13f_b.jpg

And roof.

50871412246_65e59a190d_b.jpg

I did the engine bay even though you won’t see it. 🤪

50871510372_985ed8af1a_b.jpg

The fire wall.

50871410821_5c6dd4b0af_b.jpg

The gear head

50870703458_7ef0ed45c0_b.jpg

Both seats.

50871510397_43ed9e0834_b.jpg

Although apparently I only took a snap of one. 🙄 and the fuselage halves.

50871411611_400b5a112f_b.jpg

While that dried I made the hens some porridge. 🐓🐓🐓❤️❤️❤️

As mentioned I spent a bit of time messing with paint for the main fuselage of both hind builds.

the big one says XF-80 and XF61 this looks different to the green color in the drawing but matches photo ref I have found. For this one I might go with XF-51 and the mix on the left. What do you think? I might go and stalk some of the other hind builds to get some pointers.

50871283736_1d620a4e46_b.jpg

When dry I gave the lot a base coat of the internal blue color. I could have done grey but I like this blue. 😍

office.

50870704108_9ec5ee8940_b.jpg

Cargo bay.

50871410181_0f07af3c40_b.jpg

The roof needed a few colors so a bit of masking .

50870704188_6ecd1f1d75_b.jpg

And reveal.

50871509682_5c503536d0_b.jpg

Side walls.

50870704763_0f33e6dc79_b.jpg 50870703323_16e536bb5d_b.jpg

Cargo bench with folded belts.

50871333172_5f4afbe6f0_b.jpg

Gear head.

50871410921_21a638c63a_b.jpg

The last thing were the engines. Now I’m closing up so you won’t take see these but I have learned from the other build that I should have added the pipes so I did that here.

50870702823_d38bdb1721_b.jpg

Before painting.

Almost seems a shame to hide them away.

50871509897_49d689bdd1_b.jpg

Everything that got base painted got a gloss coat. Ready for PE, decals and weathering.

50871411601_bcd1ed281c_b.jpg

The seats got secondary colors and PE.

just have to bend those lap belts when they’re dry. 👌

50871510742_153799c87f_b.jpg

50871410871_a9e996f45b_b.jpg

The cargo ones too.

50871381637_75ef6832c8_b.jpg

The office roof panel got some little PE parts.

50871410156_090f44a038_b.jpg

And the main office got showered with Etch.

50871509677_4146f4ff42_b.jpg

50870704728_a735e6c2ae_b.jpg

And that my friends is where I left it. 🤩

looking forward to the weathering and decals soon.

Thanks for looking in and for all the help with this build. Hope you’re all having a fun snowy weekend. ❄️❄️❄️

 Happy modeling chums.
