Thanks for the tip on the harness, didn't know that. Pic on the internet looks like 6 point in black webbing, does that sound right?

Ah my bad, I missed the selector lever.

The harness was a 4 point khaki coloured webbing, attached to the hull behind and above the drivers shoulders and to the sides of the seat for the waist.

I don't know how much further you want to go with the detail but if you want ultra anal then on the left of the driver the oil filler cap was silver as was the hand throttle and the catch on the rear of the selector assembly had a black head (it was the reverse selector bolt).

I hope I'm not coming across as a pedant or rivet counter Nick and I'm in no way criticising your superb work, that would be absurd and spiteful, I'm only trying to be helpful by offering my experience.👍👍

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a go at the harness although with the roof not yet on the fixing will be tricky - one to ponder!

Really appreciate the help and take it entirely in the way it's meant, nice to get pointers from people who've got experience of the real thing. I'll have a look at access for a brush to see if I can get to those areas.

Looks rather good Nick, suitably busy in the rear compartment.
Just one tiny pointer, the drivers headset plugged directly into a CB2 (Crew Box 2) box which was located next to the drivers master switch on the underside of the roof rhs. No need for a pressel box and curly lead.

The commanders headset plugged into a CPU (Commanders Personal Unit ) which is triangular unit that had a strap and was placed around his neck. This had the large curly lead which in turn plugged into the CBFD  ( commanders box fixed digital). From the CPU you could monitor 2 radio nets and switch between them to transmit. Both the drivers headset fittings and the CPU were quick release fittings so if you had to bail out it wouldn’t strangle you !

Thanks Dan, would that be this box, if so where would it plug in?

I'll have a go at re-wiring him.

Where would the CBFD be fitted?

Cheers

That black box is the drivers master switch, the red handle is the main power switch to start the engine, drivers CB2 is fitted to area where the hollow is but angled so the driver could easily plug in ,it looks like an RCU so a little green box and is missing from the kit. It’s an easy scratch build tbh but not that visible from the outside.The CBFD is located in the commanders compartment behind his right hand side in front of the NBC controls, I think it’s in the kit but I’ll have to check later for you.

The CPU is the only bit of Intercom kit which has a curly lead but only from the CBFD to the CPU, all the headsets issued were only fitted standard lead non coiled. This layout was to enable a clean disconnect in an emergency and the long coiled lead to the CPU was to allow the commander to move about the top of the vehicle when manoeuvring without worrying about tripping over it.

The drivers master switch also houses the two most important electrical connections on the wagon, the BV !

Thanks again Dan, appreciate the help. At the risk of being a pain...........what would the chieftain crew have had in terms comms leads, pressel switch's or CPU's?

I think for the driver I'll just tuck the cable in under the roof in that area and secure it, as you say it'll be difficult to see from the, not to mention connecting it when the roof's on.

Cheers

Only one CPU as you only get one commander, the other crew in a chieftain would probably use a clansman pressel box just to give them more lead and room to move. The driver would plug into a CB2 as he once in his seat wouldn’t move.
The loader is also the radio op in a chiefy crew as well as the brew maker so he would have ability to use multiple radio nets controlled from the CB2.

Just noticed that asked about the drivers harness, all I have used and seen were a 4 point tan coloured harness, always very dirty though. The two top straps clipped onto the underside of the celling. And the other two points were bolted to seat itself, almost impossible and very dangerous to drive without a harness, a slight bump might cause you to lose your head!

Not sure if this will work:

file:///storage/emulated/0/Download/432 Vs Escort.jpg

We'd just completed a full kit 10 miler preparing for the MILAN Conc at Putlos and as we rounded the corner to our stores we were greeted with this.

Reversing without a harness. That was a new XR3.

Can't access the pic I'M afraid

Excellent all this detail going in👌
Now then am I going this far with my one next on the bench🤔

Cheers mate, I like adding bits from feedback and info, but it does get a bit addictive 🙂

Driver's got his harness and comms cable;

Mesh arrived for the cages;

With hindsight I'd have used copper wire for the frame;

Test fit;

Some dust in the back;

Cages installed;

And finally the roof can go on!!

Thanks for the comments and likes and again to @Dads203, @Swiftnbold and @metadyne for the help on the details. (how do you quote a persons user name 'properly'?)

Cheers

That's excellent Nick, the harness was fully removable from the vehicle, you've even got the correct buckles for it (the webbing was roved through a sliding central pin which was heavily serrated).

Will you be adding the cages under the seats?

Thank you, they turned out ok. I'm going to do the cages below the rearmost two benches either side as the large ammo box at the front clashes with the first bench (and it's very firmly stuck down!).

Cheers

Type '@' and then start to enter the user name. You should get a list of potential matches to choose from.

Cracking work by the way Nick - looks awesome 👍

Look on the bright side, probably done the fella a favour. Saved him from the expense of having to have the inner and outer sills and chassie legs welded up when it was due its mot!

Actually it did. Ford's paid him for the car and his "if it hadn't been a Ford...." schpeal that they 'guided' him through.

Expensive day out!!

Not much time to post of late so a bit of a catch up from odd bits and bobs over the last few months.

Following on from @Dads203 advice about the commanders radios had a go at 3d modelling the CPU's;

51783862320_110d3bc902_h.jpg

SHapeways did the honours;

51783236993_d553d7486c_h.jpg

Painted up;

51782987876_e0919d725f_b.jpg

And fitted with tin foil neck straps. I know the cables from the headsets should go in the top but they're superglued on;

51782987611_7f60520d4b_b.jpg

51782987626_6306c03c6c_b.jpg

Got some extra bits to busy up the rear of the 432 a bit more and made the bench cages. Copper wire soldered to the mesh this time. Not quite as neat (I need soldering practice) as the plastic and mesh but I guess they'd get kicked a lot 😜;

51782171542_d6127cb022_b.jpg

And some GPMG's from Accurate Armour. The idea is to put one in the back to add interest but I'll replace the kit one for the 432. NOt going to with the Chieftain as it's all asembled;

51782171442_2bc31b3a04_k.jpg

51783862440_b452c60244_k.jpg

Extra kit and bench screens fitted, the kit tool boxes went under the benches;

51783236838_6eb26dbbe3_b.jpg

51783862400_3e6e6cc604_b.jpg

  And the GPMG installed;

51782171347_f90b89bf06_h.jpg

Last bits of PE on the hull side and rear;

51783862855_db6247b26c_h.jpg

51782987711_20bab9a814_h.jpg

And those parts than need to be painted separately getting detailed;

51783621169_bb6ba394fe_b.jpg

51782987811_f82b6b069c_b.jpg

And it's finally ready for pint on the outside!

Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas!

Cheers
