Going by the rain, I'd guess the photo was taken in 83, probably the Sunday. It was my first warbird show aged 13, and the two highlights for me were G-FIRE and Stefan Karwowski in the Bearcat. Got drenched, but it was worth it and the whole show blew this impressionable new teenager away. Currently building the entire line up for this airshow in 1/72. I've got an RFI thread somewhere on the subject. Not long finished G-FIRE and NH749, so I will be updating the thread soon. I do remember that every time I saw G-FIRE fly, the tail wheel was always fixed down and never retracted. Steve 2
ththtttu7 Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 For what it's worth, here's my 1/48 Airfix G-FIRE... 5
fightersweep Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 It was well worth it David. Nice G-FIRE and thanks for sharing. I've done one in 1/72 and have a 1/32 version lined up. It's such a great scheme!
Pete in Lincs Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 I found this great picture on line, Shame it's in black & white. As far as I can see, NH904 is now in the USA?

They were not available for a while. So I guess I didn’t miss Airfix announcing a G-HUNT kit in their 2021 new kits? I guess the straight edge wing might be a challenge Just to clear up any confusion, Draw Decals was not Red Pegasus.! Red Pegasus was a separate company now no longer operating due to passing of the owner. Draw Decals have, has or will be doing some of the Red Pegasus decals under their own Draw Decal banner and to a better process. 1
bar side Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Thanks for the advice in this thread - just finished my 1/48 Airfix & posted it in RFI 1
alanbeeb Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Apologies for the thread resurrection! I picked up one of these at the Perth Show a couple of weekends ago so this thread is great! The box art seems to suggest smoked glass for the canopy, and it looks very smart - is anyone able to verify this? .... and suggest a paint to use for this effect if correct? many thanks,
jenko Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Seem to remember that G-FIRE had flashing lights to simulate the guns firing 1

I've just done a quick'n'dirty web trawl and found nothing that suggests that G-FIRE had a tinted canopy. Adam Tooby has probably used a slightly darker tone there to give the transparency some definitiinn. If you want to tint your canopy I'd like to suggest Tamiya Smoke, built up in very thin layers 'til you get the desired look (but maybe try to avoid the gangsta 99% blackout look) 1

bentwaters81tfw Posted June 4 Posted June 4 The gun blisters were deleted, Spencer had custom made fuel tanks made for the gun bays and leading edge. I believe he had other extra tanks fitted giving him a range of 1000 miles.

I guess the straight edge wing might be a challenge I commissioned Keith to do these decals along with the Black Knight T33 G-OAHB. unfortunately Keith got the nose stripes wrong on G-HUNT, he was going to rectify this but unfortunately passed. I told Draw the issue but it’s not been altered. I did the 3 in 1/32 scale & I’ve just started a 1/24 G-FIRE. Can’t work out how to add pic from phone.

That’s all really interesting. 3 years later and still no Airfix 1/48 G-HUNT but I still wouldn’t rule it out. Just working on their G-FURY at the moment. Do you know if the Black Knight decals are still available anywhere? I would really like to build her in 1/48 For pictures you need a hosting service. You can use Flickr or I use Imgur. You upload your photos and then get a direct link to the .jpg file - won’t work if it’s not a true direct link. Things like google photos will give you a direct link but they are not really stable so no good for this.

But since the main man retired, I think things will change. Draw have all Red Pegasus files but will only release what they get enough interest for. I have sets in 72 & 32, I made a 32. i found that Red Pegasus decals were better as they are Alps printed & very thin without bleed through, the Draws are very thick & the curved bit at the nose is difficult to get to conform. i don’t use Flickr etc, too complicated for me, I just stick to the likes of facebook where it’s easy to post a picture.
