As regards the kit there's light at the end of the tunnel but I'm not going to have a lot of time off work for the next fortnight. We'll see how it goes. The prop masking was made so much easier by using my Infini Cutting Board. Thanks very much. It's the old upside down cowling ploy. They're just dry fitted to allow the glue in the sub-assembly to cure. I put the first one in upside down and then they had to look the same to me. To be honest I didn't notice until I was taking the pics but left them to cure. AliGauld Posted February 13, 2021 Author Share Posted February 13, 2021 Evening All, I fixed up the split transfers. Put the last fuselage transfers on. The undercarriage doors, bomb bay, wheel wells, cabin heaters and bomb bay opener thingies got a bit of a wash to dirty them up a bit Stickers were also placed on the props. Don't ask me how I didn't spot the melted spinners at this point. I haven't got a clue . The wheels then got dirtied up a wee bit. Everything was then given a gloss coat to marry the finish up so that the final; coat will be even. This was the point I noticed the spinners, purely down to me I must have been a bit heavy handed with the Extra Thin. So....... Chris Thanks Chris, Masking and painting the prop tips wasn't too bad, I prepared little bits of tape on the cutting board so masking up was fairly quick. Putting the decals on was quite quick just a little time to try and get them in the same position but only took about half an hour. This was the only time that the Revell transfers let me down. After they had dried for a while about three were lifting and didn't want to stick. They were pummelled into place with UMP Extra Strong Solution and as soon as that was dry the whole assembly was glossed to keep everything in place. AliGauld Posted February 14, 2021 Author Share Posted February 14, 2021 Hi There, I've just put a protective gloss coat over the transfers and earlier I had sanded back and resprayed the spinners but the need a bit more work. A quick question to garner some opinions. I'm thinking, and this was the original plan, of putting a Flory Dark Dirt wash over everything but am now not certain as it may be overkill as the surface textures are showing nicely or do I just go for the final satin coat. So, what does everybody think. I know that if I do go for it and I don't like it I can wash it off. I will also need to mask off a bit after the satin and matt coat the anti-glare on the nose. Chris Thanks Chris, I'm going to let the gloss coat cure properly and try the wash, I think. It does mean it'll be Friday before I can work on it properly but we'll see. I've got a quick day on Tuesday for a Safety Brief and Rules Exam so if I can get that over with quickly then I might get something done then. Meanwhile, After two rounds of Mr. Surfacer and paint, we have these Not perfect but they look ok from 6 inches. They need a gloss coat to blend everything in. Maybe I'll do that later.
