ColinChipmunkfan
Brilliant work overcoming that warping- never seen a model so out of sorts. after seeing that I am wondering which is the better AEW2, Airfix or Revell?

Thanks so much. I think that I've got one that slipped through the net as all reports are that the Revell is normally a great kit. I think the choice comes down to Revell's superior surface detail or Airfix's internals. Cheers, Alistair
AliGauld
Not much done today. I've sanded the Mr. Surfacer back and everything feels very smooth but only paint will tell. These arrived in the post today, so no excuses any more I will need to give the photoetch flaps a go. I know that a parked Shackleton had flaps up and bay doors open, so this, if it works, will be unrealistic. But hey-ho. These also arrived so I will need to remove the digit and get the Tornado finished. Thanks for looking, Cheers, Alistair

AliGauld
Sorry, there's very little to update today. Some clear bits glued and masked, some Maskol applied and some more fiddly photoetch applied. I feel like I've done nothing much but been at it for ages. Time consuming stuff. This may be the last update for a few days as I'm back to work tomorrow. Thanks for looking, Cheers, Alistair
bigbadbadge
Good to see the fuselage together and the bits and bobs going on . Great job. Chris

AliGauld
Today I finished off the fuselage masking. The Radome was fitted, if you can call it a fit. On perusal of walkround pictures the join between the Radome and the fuselage was quite visible, so I put some Mr. Surfacer on and a short time later nipped off the excess with a cotton bud and Self-Levelling Thinner. When I got back from shopping i gave everything a very diluted spray of paint. It seems I still have some seam work to deal with. after that I put some other bits together. So, that's it for today, I think. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Alistair
Learstang
Looking good! It's seems that I'm doing my Shack the reverse of yours - first I finished up the wings, nacelles, and the tail planes, leaving me with the fuselage to glue together and finish. Best Regards, Jason Hi Jason, I left the wings until later as I was thinking about photoetch flaps but have decided against them so have pushed forward with them. I kind of followed the instruction sequence at first. We'll end up roughly he same though. Cheers, Alistair
AliGauld
Sanding and filling after the paint showed up the seams I thought I had gotten rid of. Then sprayed with some UMP Black Primer Some work still to be done. More filler applied and sanded the sprayed with Mr. Surfacer thinned with Levelling Thinner. Might have got that one finally...... but, Edit:- Nope as it dried back the seam started showing again. Time for Humbrol filler or sprue goo methinks... Aaarrrggghhh......Still work to be done. This kit does not want to be built. Letting everything dry completely and the will get the Surform out and attack those seams. 🤣 Thanks for looking, Cheers, Alistair Edited January 18, 2021 by AliGauld Addendum 6
perdu
This is the hated part... Which gives us, after the diligent part the beauty of a finished finish. Coming along nicely Ali, nil desperandum baby.

It'll be ready at some point. 😀 cheers, Alistair
bigbadbadge
Crikey those seems are troublesome, not much further and the seams will disappear. More importantly have you tested the wings yet against the fuselage and flown it round making plane noises!!! Cracking job Chris 1

Funnily enough I tested the wings and the tail planes after the glue on them dried and they fit beautifully. Who'da thunk it. Well at the moment anyway once glue is involved that's when the fun starts. Cheers, Alistair
Learstang
Maybe that's why I haven't painted my MR.2 and MR.3 yet - so I can still hold them and fly them around, making 'Vroom' noises! Or maybe I'm just bone-idle lazy... Regards, Jason P.S. You will defeat those seams! Oh, yes, you will!

Learstang
On this site it has, thankfully. The lunatics are ruling the asylum! Oh wait, we're not lunatics, we're just plastic modellers. Harmless really. Just give us a box of plastic bits, some glue, some paint, and we're happy! Simples! No need for the men in white coats to take us away.
