Phil1960
Hi All, I need a to take a break from my Steyr 2000a a very time consuming work. So I decide to point at a quick built with no scratch, no photoetched and so on. I was attracted by this nice picture of a DAK Kubelwagen. To me it is interesting as it lacks right front mudguard and has baloon tyres on rear station. Besides I want to test a heavy desert weathering. I'll use Tamiya Kubelwagen kit no. 35213. OFTB with minor improvements with plastic cards. The only addition is top canvas from Def Model kit no 35064. It's nice with a inner detailed frame (it could be improved but I'll try to resist). My target is to complete the model in a month! We will see. Merry Christmas Ciao Filippo

Phil1960
Here more wip pics Working on my Kubel I discovered many differences. I really didn’t know how many version were built of the vehicle! Tamiya kit fit, as usual, like a glove but, as Tamiya is used to be, is an mix of different versions! Looking at the ww2 pictures and walkaround details I made my Kubelwagen Type 82 from june 1942 production run pointing out: · no jack hole on rocker panels; · long rear reflector; · short rear mudguards; · turn indicators mounted on windshield; · long spokes on spare wheel mount (taken from kit no 35238); · horn moved under windshield · shovel mounted on right side; · baloon tyres on rear station (taken from kit no 35238). hope you like.

Phil1960
Hi All here the almost completed model. It lacks some minor details. Dust tripes on windscreen doesn't convince me🤔. Let me know. Ciao Filippo
Del Boy
Hi F, I have only just caught up with this thread and I just think your work is stunning, simply stunning. I am also seriously impressed with the 'extras' you have added and included, all add so much to the integrity and realism. One thing I am curious about is your note 'Base coat of Tamiya XF-63 Panzergrau + MIG heavy chipping fluid overspray + MIG Washable dust RAL 8000 gently removed with water' I am on my third model and would just like to understand just how you used this overspray and gently removed with water idea. Sorry for the dumb question! Derek
Phil1960
Hi Derek, many thanks for your kind work! To add the chipping effect I: 1. first sprayed Tamiya XF-63 waiting 24 hours to dry very well; 2. Sprayed several light coats of MIG chipping fluid (to fast drying process use the air flow from your S&H 😉 airbrush (do not use the hot flow from hair dryer as it changes the chemical fluid composition, be patience!); 3. Sprayed MIG acrilic color RAL 8020 over it; 4. Wait few minutes and prepare some water and a flat but gentle brush; 5. Selected the area where I want the chipped effect beginning from corners and gently gently I removed RAL 8020 from a little area to a larger if you want; 6. The removing process can be stronger onto larger and orizontal areas. 7. Take a look to the general effect and add more chipping where you need. Sometimes happens that you had to insist to remove little area from RAL; other times you had to pay attention to avoid that all RAL go away. I dont know why but I think it depends on the amount of chipping fluid you sprayed and/or from the dry timing of the fluid itself🤔. Mistery! HTH. 👍 Ciao Filippo

Bullbasket
That looks excellent. The windscreen wiper marks look fine. Just what you would see on a really dusty screen. John.
Phil1960
Thank you John but frankly I'm not satisfied by my windscreen wipes. I used a pointed brush too large. Next project I'll try to improve. Ciao Filippo
