StyrenePilot1970
Happy Christmas, All! Trying to get a couple (read several) projects running during my winter break. I had pulled several longtime denizens of the stash down, one of them being the 1/48 N1K1 George, which I had done a little noodling on - cleaning parts etc. Started it in earnest when I discovered I had the Hasegawa kit of the same subject in the stash as well. So down the rabbit hole I go! Cockpit colors are my interpretation and I believe the instrument panels were actually black, but here's the action so far: Tamiya cockpit Hasegawa cockpit:
StyrenePilot1970
Happy Boxing Day, ladies and gents! Work progresses. Painted the undersurfaces of both kits. First the control surfaces in Tamiya XF-76 IJN grey/green. Masked them off. and sprayed the bellies with Tamiya rattle can Gloss Aluminum. Got the idea to post shade a few of the panels and used AK Aluminum for that. Subtle, but comes across better in person than in photos. Hasegawa undersurfaces painted: Tamiya undersurfaces painted: Tamiya George undersurfaces masked: Polly Scale IJN Green applied to Tamiya George's upper surfaces: Hasegawa George to follow. State of play now:
StyrenePilot1970
Both painted and a little gloss coat (Hasegawa on the left). Decals in the Tamiya kit are shot, so I'll do both options of the Hasegawa kit with hinomarus borrowed from the decal vault.
fubar57
Great job and under surface colour. I've built three and one more in the stash. One cannot have too many Georges. George
StyrenePilot1970
Small update - Waiting on Hinomarus in the post as the both the kit decal sheets are pretty much unusable due to age (Tamiya sheet) and the clear back seal leaving an impression across them (Hasegawa). But basic painting done.
stevehnz
Looking good, I've several of the various versions in stock, I rather like the look of them. It'll be good to see these done. Strve
StyrenePilot1970
After Airbrush issues, decal issues and....issues - here we are currently. My idea is to have one less weathered than the other. Tamiya Hasegawa The boys together...
