Royal Aircraft Factory FE8, Scaleplanes 1:72 vacform

Recommended Posts

At the beginning of the lockdown there was talk of a "lockdown group build" on the Vacform modellers facebook page so I decided to jump in. I dug out one of the first kits I acquired when I restarted the hobby back in 2011, The RAF FE8. I knew from the start it would be a challenge: my first "pusher", only my 3rd vacform, and it wasn't very accurate!

I had a Small Stuff engine for it, a PE seat, and an Aeroclub prop and wheels which could be modified, so I went for it!

The subject is 7624 of 40 Squadron, RFC, based at Treizennes, France.

On November 9th 1916 this aircraft, piloted by Cpt T Mapplebeck, was damaged by Anti-Aircraft fire and forced to land behind German lines. Capt Mapplebeck was made a POW.

There is a full build log here.

Paints are Misterkit and it's rigged with .06mm monofilament fishing line. I hope you like her!

Merry Christmas to all BMers, and here's to a much better 2021!

Stay safe!
