franky boy
Hello chaps I finished this one way back in February this year and have only just got around to taking photo's of it. This is Tamiya's F-14A in 1/48 scale totally oob except for some Eduard resin wheels. It's a big lump when finished! Painted with Hataka Orange Line lacquers and AK Xtreme metals for metal parts. Decals by Furball representing an a/c from VF-14 Tophatters based aboard the USS Enterprise during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001. Actually the only kit I've ever built representing an a/c from the 21st century. I weathered the model using a Flory Models dark dirt wash. This was then applied and then gently sanded back to achieve the grubby look that well used Tomcats had. Further weathering was then achieved with oils. I must say that this is one the nicest kits I've ever built. I'm normally more of a WW2/early cold war modeller but if you fancy a mojo reboot then give this one a try. Robert
You have done a great job on the weathering to give it that well worn look. Regards Robert
Jeff G
An excellent Tomcat. As they say, I'd build this kit "anytime, baby!"
Tiger331
Veery Nice !. I must admit I do like the USN F-14 in this scheme with the black tails to provide a bit of interest......I have a similarly marked VF-31 F-14D Tomcat in the 'to do' pile. Great weathering too.....spot on in my book....not too OTT and very realistic Well Done, Sir !

I’d also like to build one of the light gull grey a/c with black fins. Next time. 20 hours ago, Farmerboy said: Just built the D and I agree it’s a great kit, a real pleasure as is yours to look at good job! Thanks Farmerboy. I saw your D. Gary Brantley
Every time I see one of these Tamiya Tomcats, I tell myself to start shopping for one and toss that old Monogram F-14 that's lurked in the stash for 30+years. 😀 And now, you've done again James! Your model looks fantastic and it is an inspiration for sure. I so love seeing it posed with the wings in both positions! Well done sir!! 🍺

It makes perfect sense and once you open that Tamiya box you wont be able to help yourself but start building.

A little voice in one ear is saying, "You have too many kits to build now, don't buy more." But, that other lil' voice in the other ear is so sweetly whispering, "You need this one; you should buy one. It will be great to build." Heh, heh, guess which voice is most apt to win? 😁 Thanks for the encouragement James! 🍺
franky boy
No worries, and it actually builds up quite quickly for such a big kit. That's one more reason to buy!
