Each one is amazing- well built models and brilliant dioramas. The whole collection is a tribute to great skill, attention to detail and patience.  I shall try to use your ideas but no way to the same level.  Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much.

Very much appreciated. :)

... and good luck on your builds! Glad my feeble efforts may in someway help and motivate, just as others here inspire me.

Hello
It's simply beautiful.
Your paintings and patinas are superb, your dioramas extremely vivid.
Keeping the same frame for everyone is a great idea.
I think it's a flawless one.
What exceptional work.

Thank you so much Ghost69.

Up until 2020 some of those diorama had different bases.

The Lysander scene was much bigger and needed lots of landscaping to fit the new parameter. A few early models had thin boards too which needed some work.

Not a bad thing though as I wasn't happy with some of these scenes,so was a good excuse to rebuild them.
The display cabinet I'm using benefited from taller scenes, so I gave them all a 1"thick chunky base. This is now standard.

Thanks again. Much appreciate mate :)

These are truly amazing dioramas, each one tells its own story. What did you use for the snow on the yak 3 and the mozzie bases? Thanks for sharing,

Riley

Thank you mate. Very kind.

The snow media is from a company called 'precision snow effects'.

Glued on with lots of hairspray and scenic glue (tints yellow so had to airbrush some white in after).

The gloppy snow is mixed with silicone gel and PVA.

Wow these are fantastic. Love the variation in the bases aswell.

Feel very inspired.

If you don't mind we asking, what's next in the pipe line?

Hi Joss.

Thank you for your kind comments and glad you've found some inspiration in them.

My Next project is a Spitfire MkIXe and V1 flying bomb. The air crews are being given a lecture on wing tipping.

The Spitfire will be partly tucked away in a hanger. Just struggling to fit everything into such a small space.

Just finished the Spitfire and now working on the V1, crew and trolley.

Brilliant, that sounds like it's going to be awesome.

The spitfire looks great 👍

Look forwards to seeing the rest!

Just a quick question - apologies if you've answered this elsewhere but I don't think I could find it - what did you use to make the crop stalks in the field?

Hi Deep Sea.

I found a box in my old model stash I bought years ago containing clumps of twiggy dried grass. The label had long deteriorated so no idea who made the product.

I cut the very tips off with scissors as the base seemed to straight and carefully glued each stem in with a tiny drop of PVA after pre drilling uniformed holes spaced 3mm apart. Over 200 tiny grass stems drove me mad!

Fine model railway ballast mixed in a PVA glue solution and rolled flat or roofing felt, again squashed flat with pigments, dust effects and paint for the runways.

Grit added to polyfilla with lot of water and mig earth dust and mig mud for the roads and earth.

Hi...do you think that technique would work for a desert airfield?

Hello Carlosee.

It could work..., but if I was you, I would experiment with fine sand with a few different grades of grit mixed with Polyfilla.

Thats how I did this one.

Also, you might try replicating Marston Mat as that was commonly used.

Lots of scale options replicate this but I haven't tried any yet. Good luck.

Thanks mate that’s really kind. I need to sketch it out and plan it. I’ve got 2 Stukas and 2 Bf110s in 1/72 to make a diorama

When you mix the polyfilla do you water it down make it thinner?

Yes mate.

Sorry, forgot to say,.. you need to use water.

I really water it down and use a broad brush. Best of luck and look forward to seeing you results. Good luck :)
