1/72 Hasegawa RF-4E Woodpecker Phantoms

Recommended Posts

I was inspired by this video to build two Hasegawa RF-4E's

Couple of caveats:

First post in the RFI thread

Fist post to include images

My modelling skills are, at best, that of a B+ standard

And my photographic skills mirror my building skills

Both models were build "out of the Box", using only canopy masks, metal probes and DXM decals for the tan/green Phantom.

The SEA camouflage Phantom was from the Hasegawa kit 02316 which came with the decals to finish it in the "blue SEA" scheme.

The "tan/green" Phantom was from Hasegawa kit 00862 with the DXM decals.

Amazing work! how do you like the decals? Any trouble with them?

Thank you czaralko, the DXM decals went on very nicely I just wish they would put their decals on a bigger piece of paper. I was happy with the quality of the Hasegawa decals on the SEA scheme, I have been disappointed with some of Hasegawa's decals especially in their "Limited Edition" kits but I am happy to say these went very nicely.

Brilliant, some of the best Phantom schemes out there, imho.

Steve.

Thanks Steve, I sometimes wonder if the Japanese had as many different schemes as they did Phantoms. :)

Two very wonderful and different version of the Phantom.

I too have the Hasegawa kits and the DXM decals to do these two aircraft. Having never used this manufacturer before I must ask how were the decals?

Thank you. I was very happy with the DXM decals, they were very thin, went on nicely and were easy to work with, I just wish they had put the decals on a bigger piece of paper because they pack a lot of decals on that small sheet.

Lovely work - Can you let us know which paints you used - both make and colours. Thanks

Thank you. Mr Color paint was airbrushed on both the models, it was thinned with Mr Color Leveling Thinner (roughly 1 part paint to 2.5 - 3 parts thinner).

tan/green Phantom - H319, H320, H321 on top and H315 on the bottom

blue SEA Phantom - H014, H072 on top and H072 on the bottom.

fuel tanks - H029 (50%) + H081 (50%)

pylons - H315

Proving once again. The Japanese are living in an alternative universe to the rest of us. We're glad of that when we see 'camouflage' like this.

You did them justice. Nice one.

Thank you, yes the Japanese have given us some interesting schemes to admire on their Phantoms.

Very tasty! Hope my SEA camouflage one looks as good as yours when I one day get round to building it.

DXM do print some very nice decals!

Martin

Thank you, yes DXM decals are worth the price you pay for them.
