So, only 4 years late to the topic here - I have finally remembered this kit exists - I have not seen it on the shelves anywhere in the UK and took the plunge yesterday and bought one online. My wife has persuaded me to build mine in SAA colours touching down at Rand in Jo'berg where it is now retired at SAA's museum. F-Decal to the rescue and some extended flaps from LACI to be used to complete my build.

You did a superb job on yours and thanks for the WIP thread which I am sure will help - it's been a while since I last built a 747.

Thank you very much.

Your project sounds also very interesting and I look forward to see your SP here on BM.

I hope you are more lucky with F-Decal as I was.

Took ages till I finally got my decals from him.

Luckily Ray from 26 came to the rescue and sent me one of his produced sets,so I could finish my build.

A quite superb WIP and end result. Well done to you - I only found this 4 years after your superb build which inspired me to buy and start an SP for myself. As soon as the SAA decals arrive from f-Decal, I will be starting a SAA Maluti SP variant.

Thank you for going to such effort to detail your build which I am sure shall assist mine. I have looked over my kits instructions a few times and can see just how unnecessarily difficult EE have made the assembly of their kit.

I wish you a happy build,if you plan carefully and clean all mating surfaces well, dryfit before glueing, you find the 747SP a quite comfortable build.

I have another one in my stash, which will (hopefully) gets its turn this year.

I bought the SOFIA decals for it but AMP is now planning the SOFIA as a new tooling,so I might wait for that and build mine in Braniff livery.

Hi Alex - thanks for the thoroughness of your advice on your build - I shall follow your notes and guidance which will be invaluable for my Maluti build. I'm not sure I am that confident about the surgery required for the LACI flaps but I'll give it a go
