Syde_Burns
I bought an second hand old Airfix 1/48 Spitfire mk.Vb kit. These white metal parts were in the box. Is it an old Aeroclub set to build an early mk.V?
Troy Smith
I would not say an 'early' Mk.V, though it has some early features, the De Havilland unit was seen all through the Mk.V run. No idea if it's an Aeroclub set, but look their style. @John Aero could tell you. If you like the challenge of a kit upgrade, it has potential, as the main shapes are excellent, needs a few tweaks and some leftover parts and a really accurate model can be made. see here Or, take advantage of fine raised panel lines and use it as a basis for a prototype or Speed Spitfire....
V Line
It appears that what you have there is a representation of the de Havilland hydromatic prop blades as used predominantly on the MkVc and also to a far lesser degree on the Vb trop. The wheels with the disc covers were seen on both aircraft types in the MTO/Western Desert and the Vc in Australia. There are also photographs of usage on UK based Spitfire Vb's. I can't offhand think of a photograph showing the prop on a UK based aircraft but you should be able to find quite a few in MTO guise or those sent to Australia, typically fitted with a Vokes filter.
