Welcome aboard Alan, any idea which type or scheme you will be doing?

Hi,

Sorry I missed your post. This would be very decal-led, for me, if you know what I mean. So, (Matterhorn Circle) Swiss F-5E, or (Aztec) Mexican F-5F, I think.

Thanks to some eBay-fu I have now got four F-5Es and an F-20, whatever that is 😁.

So a duo of Iranian jets with one converted to an F-5F. A North Yemeni model and one awaiting ideas.

Lets hope some more light jet enthusiasts see this GB and join in.

F-20 was a development of the F-5, it used a single engine vs the two in the F-5. It was hoped to be a lightweight cheap alternative for smaller nations. However General Dynamics pushed the F-16 and the plane never moved past the three prototypes. Chuck Yeager was a big fan of the F-20 and did all he could to sell it and help the company. I have an F-20 that I may use in 1/72.

Sounds good Tim, let's hope you can build them here.

As @Corsairfoxfouruncle, the F-20 never got very far.  My impression is that this was due to politics rather than any issues with the aircraft.

I would join this GB if it ran.

I'd do my HobbyBoss 1/72 F-5E with the BestFong Taiwanese mercenary pilots in the Yemeni jets.

(the pic is from modelingmadness, but my own review of the decals so technically that photo is mine)

Despite the negative press I think the HB F-5 is a fun kit. I built it already, in Brazilian colours.

You are very welcome to join us Richard.
I hadn't seen the Yemeni schemes - that two browns one looks appealing.

Assuming we make the cut, please remember to vote for the build in November

Surely having fun is what the hobby is all about, building a 100% accurate kit (whatever that is!) that doesn't fit together well is a sure fire mojo drainer and I would pick a fun build over that every day.

Your Brazilian one looks really good.

Surely there is one more out there in BM land who has a hankering to build a member of this fantastic family of aircraft.

I have some kits & some decals, why not. :)

Good man Steve, that takes us past the threshold for the bunfight I believe.

I'm sure Robert will be along soon to thank you too and let Enzo the great know that we have reached the magic number so he can move the GB into the bunfight section.

I'd give this one a go, as I'm quite a fan of the little F-5.

Last count I have a few of these in the stash , four in 1/72 and three in 1/48, Mostly A's, a couple of B's and a Talon.

This was my last build, the Airfix 1/72 F-5E a year or so ago:

So many choices out there but I especially like the Greek and Turkish F-5's, and maybe Canadian, Dutch or Norwegian.

You might like to look at the whole Flickr album of the build:

Just had a look through them, very impressive work Terry.

I used the upscaled version of that decal sheet to build and Iranian F a couple of years ago, in the first F-5 STGB.
