Negative, it's Fly's own tooling - Airfix only did the Superfreighter.

If Scalemates did link the Fly kit to the Airfix one it's been corrected since you last looked.

Interesting Dave as when I looked it up this morning the history showed it to be Airfix.

That's the full timeline for the Bristol 170 Freighter in 1:72nd scale, all full kits with a known release date are shown.

If you look at it there is a timeline link line between all the Airfix kits, and between all the Fly kits, but no connection between the Airfix and fly kits.

The first kit in each timeline (left hand side) is also denoted as New Tool.

If there was a link between the Airfix kit and the Fly kit the two timelines would be connected and only the earliest release would be denoted as New Tool

Here's a more complex timeline for the Brewster Buffalo

https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=1235225&p=timeline

Again, note all the manufacturers of full kits of the Brewster Buffalo are shown.

If you follow the Hasegawa line you can see all the issues of the kit under the Hasegawa label, then towards the right hand end there's a connection down to Hobby 2000 who have recently reboxed the kit with different decals and extra resin parts. The Airfix kit is also shown, if you follow the timeline for that moulding you  can see connections to the other labels it has been released under. There's no link from this to the Hasegawa kit, as they're unrelated.

If you look at the page for the kit you are building, https://www.scalemates.com/kits/fly-72033-bristol-170-freighter-mk21--1083512, and scroll down to the Product Timeline section it shows only 3 kits, these are the only releases of this tooling. The page you're referring to is from the Full History link.

If you look at the page one of the Hobby 2000 kits https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hobby-2000-72011-brewster-239-buffalo--1235224 and scroll down to the Product Timeline it shows both the Hobby 2000 releases and the Hasegawa releases, and the timeline link between them, but none of the other manufacturers as they're not related to the Hasegawa moulding.

Hope that explains how to read the Scalemates timelines and understand the relationship between different releases - it's not 100% perfect, but IMHO it's streets ahead of anything else on the net for info on kit releases.

Great progress, Laurie!  Yes, it looks like you've used quite a bit of force on the fuselage so far, but I think the results will be well worth it!

Alex

Thanks Alex. Bit of force so much that the Navigator & Pilot decided to vocate the aircraft 🤔

Spanner in the works. Just realizedthe "wedge thing missing on the Fly model.

One picture of decals shows the Military version, no wedge. The other decal picture shows the civilian with the wedge. But no conversion with the kit.

The dorsal fin, or fillet, provides a degree of structural strength, but also provides more longitudinal stability,

easing the load and controllability to a degree, depending on rudder authority in the single engine regime.

Crikey you would have thought it would have been included, although if not required on the options they provide then that maybe why not.

Good to see you tackle this and know you will have no problem sorting out.

Great job so far.

Chris

Yes I searched after cottoning on. You have a lot of optimism Chris 🤣

Thanks for that info. appreciated.

Shame on them for not including a fin/fillet with this kit!  For all the money we're asked to shell out for these, you'd think they'd bother!  Well, you're a modeler, not an "assembler," so I trust you'll press on with this.

Thanks Alex. Oh yes looking forward to it.  🤔 Another optomistic soul

  • 2 weeks later...

Looking good Laurie. Nice work on the tail fillet.
Hope all is well with you and your family.

Pretty good here. The virus is well under control and life is more or less normal. Inter state travel is still problematic and overseas travel is not possible. My next UK trip probably won’t happen for another 2 or 3 years.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your comments.

Yes good here. Only bars, health fitness & cinemas closed. 35 cases population 110,000. 9 cases of which were made up of an idiot who came to the Island broke his lock in first night & went to a party with a lot of other idiots & sprayed the virus around. Unbelievable.. Although Jersey Funds will be increased as he has a £10,000 fine. Serves him right.

Pleased to here you are OK down there. Probably a lot warmer as well. 12 degrees at the moment.
