Mirage IVA vs IVP

Hi Guys,

 

Does anybody know if there was any external differences between the Mirage IVA & the Mirage IVP? I have both the Heller & A&A Mirage IVA kits, but would like to do a IVP. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think it is only the centerline  pylon that allows for ASMP carriage.

The rest is internal stuff

Although I have seen  the IVP designation explained as Photographic Reconnaissance possibly because of the last few aircraft that served the designation was in fact for Penetration and the changes involved improving the aircraft for the low-level delivery of the ASMP nuclear missile rather than higher level delivery of gravity nuclear bombs.

 

There were a lot of internal system upgrades and changes including some of the cockpit instrumentation but externally the main differences were that an ASMP stand-off missile could be carried on a centreline pylon rather than the previous semi-recessed gravity nuclear bombs.     

 

Most other obvious external changes seemed to relate to the defensive aids suite with forward facing RWR type bulges on the wingtips and longer rear facing cylindrical shapes above the engine exhausts as well as an internal rectangular chaff/flare dispenser flush fitted on the centreline underneath the rear fuselage  , it is also quite likely that there were some other aerial changes around the airframe to suit the upgraded navigation sytems.

Avec l’arrivée des missiles de croisière ASMP, 19 appareils sont modifiés en Mirage IVP (P pour Pénétration) afin de pouvoir l’emporter. Le premier appareil modifié en prototype, effectue son premier vol le 12 octobre 1982. La modification des appareils de série débute en mai 1983 et s’étale jusqu’en 1987. Elle consiste principalement au remplacement de l’instrumentation analogique du poste de pilotage par une instrumentation numérique, à l’installation d’un nouveau système de navigation et de bombardement, au remplacement des systèmes de contre-mesures électroniques et du radar, et bien sûr à la modification de la soute à bombe pour pouvoir emporter l’ASMP. Le Mirage IVP armé de l’ASMP est déclaré opérationnel en mai 1986. Avec l’arrivée en service du Mirage 2000N à partir de 1988, les Mirage IVP sont progressivement retirés des missions de bombardement pour se consacrer exclusivement aux missions de reconnaissance stratégique. Ils effectent alors des missions au Tchad, en Bosnie, au Yémen, au Kosovo, en Afghanistan et en Irak en 2003. Le retrait opérationnel des Mirage IVP a lieu en 2005.
