alhenderson
Finding myself in a weird situation of wondering if my Airfix Lightning F.2A has *enough* stencils.. 🤪 I accidentally got hold of the starter kit from flea bay last week and when I looked at the decal sheet immediately thought it was very small. I have compared it to the F.6 I also "accidentally" acquired a while back and it seems to have a lot more. Does anyone know if the F2A had less stencils or is this a result of the F2A being a cut down starter kit? Or maybe the green camo scheme makes the stencilling less visible..  Typing this also makes me realise I appear to have a "stash", something I swore wasn't going to happen this time round as I was only going to build a Phantom and a Tornado for old time's sake. Oops...  Al. Giorgio N
I believe it's just because it's a starter set. I have both the starter set and a full decal sheet from the standard box and the latter includes many more stencils.
Des
Seems to be policy with all of the starter sets (someone will have exceptions no doubt) to provide only basic markings and minimal stenciling.  Perhaps not a big problem if the price is right but with lowest priced standard kits for example having an RRP of £6.99 and the corresponding small starter kits being £9.99 perhaps including a different printing of a more simplified decal sheet necessitating a different instruction sheet is a factor in the increased cost notwithstanding the added paints/glue/brush.   On the other hand it might be argued that an overly complicated decal sheet might dissuade the novice modeler the starter sets are aimed at. alhenderson
@Des very good points, although this starter set seems to come in at £18 so not exactly a basic price. Makes we wonder how much the regular kit is...  I think I saw an Xtradecal set with Lightning stencils on it.. Just depends on how much I feel some extra stencils are worth - I find them boring to put on, but I think a kit without them would look very blank indeed.   Al.
