Fairey Firefly Finally Finished ?

JOCKNEY

Recommended Posts

I can honestly say I can't remember when I started this build, the paintwork definitely needs help, but hopefully this is an opportunity to finally finish it.

Fingers crossed I haven't managed to lose anything in the intervening years.

I think I stopped when I lost the will to live trying to mask that canopy !

However having recently completed a Fulmar and a Barracuda I'm sure I can get this one done.

Good luck everyone

Hi Pat,

this is almost finished! Canopy glued, 2 months to mask it, and you can call it done!

My all time favorite Airfix box art and a beaut of a plane!

Just drop a dab of glue behind the spinner. Flacid spinners are depressing...

It's going to be another great build!

:D

You have a point though :) PVA or the Micro-Clear glue works perfect. You can even detach the prop if needed.

You can always mask the verticals first, then the horizontals. Saves cutting millions of tiny squares!

Thanks Adrian

I've been using your technique for a while now and its brilliant, I think I would still be masking the Renzan from the Frog GB if I hadn't used it !

Getting there, the original decals were like linoleum, I've drowned them and the aircraft in softening and fixing solution, they are getting better but still need work.

Also some tidying up to do with the canopy framing which is all misaligned on the actual parts so I had to redo it, happy days !

Cheers Pat
