Here is my entry to the group build. Fingers crossed for a good result as this is a quite complicated kit for my skill level. 🤞

I am planning to finish the model in Syrian Air Force markings but it will probably just the markings as I don't really care about the accuracy much and have no idea if Syria used this Mig-23 variant or not.

Nice subject choice and you look to have some rather tasty aftermarket goodies there as well. The kit seems to be a good one from all the reviews with no nasty traps to catch the modeller out but we're all here to help and encourage each other so feel free to ask us any time you'd like some advice :)

Syria uses the MLD , no worries about this! Probably up to this day.

Here are some nice Syrian decals, not specific for the MLD though....

Thank you for the picture. Looks like simpler paint scheme than the Russian ones as well. 👍 The green on the radome and top of the tail  looks interesting. Do you think it is the same as the camo green? Or is it same green Russians use on the wheels. I have MRP-32 from Mr.Paint which I guess I should be able to use.

Haha, what are the chances, I ordered a set of these decals last night before seeing this post. 🤣

this is an MF, but I guess the green color could be similar.... it is a very faded and quite bright green, also on the fin..

seems like some emerald green?

Although I'd have difficulty finding it now to confirm but feel sure I've read they've had to use whatever was at hand including motor vehicle paint to provide at least some form of camouflage.

  • 2 weeks later...

A bit of a progress this weekend. Still making models only at weekend which is major blocker for a steady progress. Should start doing more on weekdays.

Right, coming back to the model...

Surprise! The build started with the cockpit. Although cockpit looks convincing to the naked eye, the pics are nothing to be proud of. I understand why people shift towards using the decal and photoetch options more and more to build the cockpits.

I also don't like the photoetch seat belts and harnesses, I think this should come part of the molded seat especially in case of resin. Photoetch seatbelts are a lot of work and yes, I am lazy. :)

Next is the engine bits, some intake parts and closing the fuselage...

That is really nice work on the cockpit, great painting.

The seat is really good too, though I agree with you that moulded on belts look better then etched ones, not that the ones you have done on your seat don't look great, because they do.

The green used for the wheels is indeed the same as used on the di-electric panels and the radome of the one in your picture.
