JOCKNEY
As the title says, this is completely out of my comfort zone. Classic impulse purchase, completely bonkers, so made for me really. Start the guessing game and I'll pop some pictures on later. And yes I did check and it's on the build list Cheers Pat
Ottopv
I think your a aviation man I may be wrong so hopefully you’ve found a norton commando and are building a cafe racer i dont think anyone’s building a bike in the gb and it was my preferred option but I couldn’t find one
JOCKNEY
Hi @Ottopv You are spot on about my liking for aviation subjects, and if I had been lucky enough to find a bike, the Norton would have been the one I would have gone for. However it's a miss I'm afraid Cheers Pat
jean
Hi Pat, more like some 30 ton truck and trailer with some Play Boy pin-up displayed on the side? Possibly souped up as a dragster monster. This is the best case scenario... You do not want to hear of the worst possible case, trust me! We shall all wait with bated breath... As long bottom you have fun, it is not bonkers! Rabbit Leader
1/12 models of the Monty Python crew all wearing kilts and playing bagpipes!... now that’s something ‘Completely Different’? Oh... don’t forget that rather large bloke eating all that Haggis at the dinner table! Cheers.. Dave 1
JOCKNEY
Brilliant, this GB is truly special. I love all the suggestions, in fact the suggestions are in danger of being better than the actual kit. However it's still multiple misses I'm afraid. Anyone more guesses ? Black Knight
Its a great wee kit. But mind the bit where the oars join the long bit, Thats a weak point on them I recently bought one for my dottir. She's at Uni, and stuck up way beyond the Highlands in 'lockdown' and needed some fresh models. Although the scale is 1/180 as these ships were built from 15ft to 300ft long you can crew it with 1/144 people. I made crew out of Milliput for mine which I built yonks ago.

Pin
I expected a lorry with John Cleese in the trunk but Drakkar will do! I'm sure you will make it a gem, Pat

Rob S
Great choice and with that Model you’ve had one guessing game as to the Subject then when you make it complete with crew we can play “Where’s Ragnar?”.

JOCKNEY
So here's the parts, handily moulded in brown plastic Below is the painting guide, has anyone got any tips on shades of brown to use for the wood ? I imagine the oars and mast will be a different colour to the hull. All advice / tips gratefully received Cheers Pat
TonyW
I use burnt umber and sienna oil paints over a tan undercoat for different wood effects. The oils are be brushed away until you arrive at a colour that looks right to you. Make sure the undercoat is properly dry first though or the dragging will remove that as well. The process is very flexible as the oils can be worked for ages until you like the result. 1
Jinxman
I'd use whatever is on the shelf and looks reasonably close - then use @TonyW 's method. I'd probably give it a clear coat or varnish of some description before applying the oils to protect whatever is underneath. 1

Well, the painting guide shows basic Humbrol colour callouts. I’d start there and see how the muse takes you. 2
