kmf
Japan Airlines “Sora wo Tobu” - Boeing 787 Kit : Revell Boeing 787 Scale : 1/144 Decals : DrawDecal I haven’t posted anything on Britmodeller for a couple of years. So, I thought it’s about time I posted something. I built this earlier in the year for a group build we had in IPMS Ireland during the first lockdown. When I started building it, I found out I had run out of primer. I had some white rattle can spray paint, so I used it. All I can say is big mistake. At first it worked great until I started to mask the paint. After finishing painting the silver, I started to peel the masking tape off and the white paint came off as well. This meant I had to spray the white and silver again. So, I can’t say the model is perfect. As it’s so white I tried to weather the wings, but I don’t think it looks good. I only had black wash, a lighter colour wash would have been better, but the shops were closed because of lockdown and I did not have time to order it online. Hope you like it. That was just pure luck and not any kind of skill. I used Vallejo Metal Color. They work well.

Skodadriver
Very nice model and an attractive livery. Thanks for sharing. Can I make one suggestion? Authentic Airliner Decals have a set of "photo real" cockpit and cabin windows for the Dreamliner in their large range. These excellent decals really bring any model to life, particularly an aircraft with relatively large cockpit windows like the 787. If you want to go the whole hog they also have a 787 detail sheet which gives you the windows plus stencils and other markings. Cheers Dave G
Viking
Very neat Dreamliner, I see no signs of any problems with it, the paint job looks very good from here. Cheers John

I did see them in Telfords two years ago. I didn’t get them as I wasn’t going to build the Dreamliner quite yet. I did buy them for a BAC 1-11 and a Boeing 737-400. They do look really good and I haven’t used them yet but I can imagine they will make a model look a whole lot more real. I will be using them shortly because I’m building a Boeing 737-400 BAC 1-11 in Aer Lingus colours. Thank you everyone.

Turbofan
Hi Ken, What a lovely job on this Dreamliner! Good job there are some extra graphics on the fuselage it'd be a bit plain otherwise. I have to agree with Dave about the AA windows once you start using them you'll never go back to plain grey ones. As John says I can't see any evidence of your paint problems either. You've done a great job of repairing it. I have had a similar problem with my current build, there were a number of areas of masking which peeled up the underlying white. Don't know why but sometimes these things just happen! I don't think there is anything wrong with your wing weathering but rather than buying specialist washes an easier way of weathering the wings is to draw along all the flap outlines with a sharp, soft pencil then simply run your finger backwards over the line and it'll smear just enough of the graphite to look like the dirt and oil streaks seen on airliner wings. Your model reminds me I haven't built a 787 yet, might have to dig one out of the stash! Looking forward to your upcoming Aer Lingus 1-11 and 737. White or green top livery? Cheers, Ian
