JOCKNEY
I am trying to renovate a kit part built and painted by someone else. What can I use to remove the paint without damaging the kit ? Cheers Pat
Stef N.
Mr Paint Remover is very good and it doesn't hurt the underlying plastic at all.
RobL
99% Isopropyl Alcohol. The stuff everyone was using to make hand sanitiser not long back... Far cheaper by volume, and probably just as effective, plus totally safe. Give the model a soak for a while then scrub away. Steve Noble
Depends on the type of paint? You can use oven cleaner on enamels paints, or, as already suggested IPA on most other paints will work fine.
Yorkshire man
Bleach will remove most paints effectively, leave overnight and rinse away (also very cheap!).
bentwaters81tfw
Brown Dettol. Shifts old enamel paint, even removes Appliance White. 1

JOCKNEY
Thanks very much everyone, I'm going to try the brown dettol to start with, I'm nervous that if I am seen with oven cleaner, I may give Mrs Jockney the wrong idea ! The consequences of which could mean me getting extra domestic duties ! Cheers Pat
JWM
Chocked tubing unblocker containing NaOH or pure NaOH from chemical store. Be careful - it is both poison and very harmful to skin, eyes etc. But it work perfectly Regards J-W
JOCKNEY
Hi everyone Just a quick update and special thanks to @bentwaters81tfw. I tried the brown dettol by tipping a bit in a plastic sandwich bag, putting the kit inside making sure all the paint was covered by moving the contents round inside the bag and leaving overnight. This morning using an old tooth brush, (no not Mrs Jockney's tempting as it was) a light rub over all paint removed no nasty chemical burns and not a mark on the plastic. Added bonus is Mrs Jockney thinks I've bleached the sink to keep it clean and stop it getting blocked ! Well it would have been rude to have corrected her Cheers Pat 3
badger
Glad it worked for you. Only downside is the rather antiseptic smell!
