George Norman
Good Evening all Been Beavering away still, Never seems to progress as there is so many little bits to do! The Carley float was a crap resin mould and I was not too happy with it, the ropes in resin were sanded smooth and replaced with real rope and pre shaded and then painted, I also weathered the winch and stuck to rope on it too, Bit more work to do on it as you can see. George Norman
Hello Everyone. Well the bags of bit are diminishing quite quickly from me last check, Still pondering about some pieces though and where they go! Over the weekend I tackled the Depth Charge Platform and got it built but not painted yet. Might do that tonight. Depth charges had Metal Ends and plastic tube for the middle, Went together quite nicely. They plans show Eyes to tie these down and looking at other build there seemed to be white metal eyes provided but none were included on my model so some spare eyes were got from the spares box and those put in. The lower part of the davit was gain from Telescopic aerial which fitted lovely. George Norman
Hi Lads, Hope you are all doing well and having a Nice summer! Coming up to a Year since I started this one! time Flies! Thanks for the Comments, Been Beavering away here and have managed to get a few small items done over the past while but the most tedious one has been done and that is the Armoured Deck Plating and punching the Rivets but I have that done Saturday all day and I have now pre shaded with white and Black and then laid the green on the top. I am quite pleased with this as a Flat green Deck would of looked a bit toy like. Took it out in he ambient light to see though what it looked like. Weathering also has been started on the Box, Front Gun and ammo Boxes by the Main cabin. Sunday took a trip to the the Knockmealdown mountains, Tis About 20mins drive from my house for a 13K hike to calm me nerves after slicing the top of my Left hand thumb off with the Scalpel! Parents were not available or supervision for Help at the time! Pics included for something different! It was very busy, I met 2 people in the 3.5 hours Walking! Dancona
Dear George, (or maybe By George !) That is absolutely beautiful, the sweeper that is, as a vessel it just oozes character, and you are doing a bang up job on it, the weathering is excellent (that winch is a gem) ! The countryside looks lovely as well, i hope your thumb is better !! Cheers David 1

ArnoldAmbrose
Gidday George, she's not the most glamourous of naval vessels but I think you've done an extremely good job of a type of ship often underappreciated. Very well done. Regards, Jeff.
Iceman 29
The advantage of George's meticulous work is that the work is impeccable and at the same time we travel in Ireland sitting at home with a good beer! 😎
Modelholic
A query regarding the winch. The outer pulley wheels (just visible bottom right corner of image #7549) that run fore and aft would be under a lot of pressure when they had a couple of turns of rope around them I'm wondering if there were parts (similar the triangularish bits that hold the main drums in position) to reinforce the shafts as they enter the inboard sides of them? I could see those shafts bending pretty quick! Tom

George Norman
Slowly nearing the finish line, Hope fully a launch in August some time! Hand rails have been soldered up, Tough enough job TBH, Makes you appreciate the ready to fold Etch!! All the Bulwark supports are in too and the paint job needs a little tidying up here and here, Have the Steering chain tubes in also, Not too sure if these actually carried the chains or was the Steering set up internal? George Norman
Morning Gents, Well my end of August date flew by and with the good weather we have had up till now I have been out and about a lot more on the rivers and mountains. Here is a few shots of the latest progress, The Ratlines were done, I really hated those and some of the fore and aft rigging, The Gallows are in place too I am now to the point were I have to come up with something for the Aerials between the fore and aft masts as the super-structure is removable I need to have these detachable. I was thinking about Nylon thread as it would keep the aerials nice and taught and attached to a brass hook or such. Oh the Nav Lights are also in too. George Norman
The Stumbling block that has come up re detachable aerials is slowly being worked on , I found to 0.4mm wire and fashioned a Spring to tension it on one end and also found some etched brass spare hooks to, well hook it onto a Shackle and to a attachment point on the rear mast. this is my first attempt, Not to happy about the kink right next to the Spring but also not sure what better option there may be. It does keep it nice a taught though. Next ones are from the T bar of the main mast to the rear mast, The main mast is white metal so wont take much tension to break that. Might try nylon String. George Norman
Hi folks, Not happy with the Aerials in Brass wire, They would not keep taught enough for my liking so the Daughter came to the rescue with some Elastic Bracelet thread, Just what the Doctor ordered. Nice and tight no, Kept the Springs for effect and they are removable.
