I hope so! Any decent kits on it in 1:72?

Hobbycraft actually released it twice with the later version correcting some of the faults of the initial release.  Still not a perfect kit but a lot nicer.

Perhaps somebody has one in their stash.

In the stash only first edition therefore - no, I am not so inhuman and antihuman that I would start building it in this GB! 😁

Thanks,

They are on offer at silly prices on e-Bay - £70 to £150! Perhaps somebody has one in their stash.

Pete

I do have one which I think is the earlier version.  Still think I want to build it someday but then I have 600+ other kits that I think I will build also.

If I thought I could get the US equivalent of 70 pounds for it I would sell but that is a ridiculous price for an Ok at best kit.

Then again I have an Airfix Valiant in the for sale price marked at $60 and just saw what they have been selling for on evilbay so might have to mark up my price a bit.

I am in the US so shipping could also get a bit dicey but if you are interested, PM me an offer (you can go well under the 70) and I might just let it go.

Some aftermarket stuff arrived:

The decals. This is the Modeldecals sheet that actually has some other planes in it too. But this is what I am intersted in - the Belgian Clunk.

The seats from Iroquois Models

And finally, some paints. Have not used Hataka before so I'm interested to test how they work. Red Line is the acrylics line for airbrushing.

You're getting well prepared for this project Reini

Might be about time to actually start the project 😆

Which I did!

The wings. These will need lenghtening. But the construction, AZ Model should learn about this. When you make wing in such style, so that the underside is smaller than the upper wing. Make the shape follow the panel lines...

50680500611_be5703dbc3_o.jpg

... and make the fit so nice that you have hard time figuring out which one is the underside :D

50680500551_b2f73db665_o.jpg

Intakes on the other hand seem bit problematic. Instead of the intakes going inside or on top of the holes in the fuselage - they kinda go on top of eachother. Well I can't see a scenario where the fit would be so nice that I would get nice and smooth intake edges in such a manner but hey, we will see...

The gun holes are a separate part but I think I need to putty them over as Mk.V's didn't carry guns.

50680575357_a65ac34ccc_o.jpg

I made some very simple details for the wheel wells.

First layer of paint, some Tamiya Lacquer black.

The cockpit is rather spartan so I will be keeping it mostly black - and concentrating mostly on the seats which look rather nice. The aftermarket seats that is, not the originals... they are pretty awful.

50774423211_6c653503c0_o.jpg

Some weight to the nose.

50774536957_2fbe80893d_o.jpg

Started working on the intakes. The 'bullets' had small blades on them, decided I would model them in as they are quite prominent.

50774423141_796428e841_o.jpg

Cut thin plasticard sheet to strips and glued them on...

50774536897_b4221e93bc_o.jpg

... and cut them to length.

50773674008_4cb635efd4_o.jpg

And after some paint, they will do just fine.

50773673978_621f2bec20_o.jpg

Fitting them in.

50774536852_707cf18be8_o.jpg

And the fuselage comes together.

50774423051_a3c91a09d1_o.jpg

Like I noticed earlier, the seam on the intakes is not very pretty so we need to do something about it.

50774423026_bae73bc4e6_o.jpg

Some Sprue Goo and after sanding we will see how it worked out.

50774536827_a88ae3aff0_o.jpg

I also did some work on the tail. In the initial dry fitting it seemed that the tail and fuselage are shaped little bit differently so we might need to do some extra work on the fitting.

The fit of the tail was not too bad, actually it was quite good in the end. No putty, just little sanding.

50847910397_54fb1157d7_o.jpg

Sanded the intakes, they look ok now but primer will tell the truth.

50847910357_53e6cea018_o.jpg

Then the extended wings - I started gluing couple of sheets ot styrene together as I didn't have thick enough sheet.

50847826361_6cb73f26b4_o.jpg

Then cutting them to size, leaving some extra for the sanding process.

50847100693_751ae8189a_o.jpg

Then sanding the profile.

50847100668_19a8db9f7c_o.jpg

Despite having some extra material for sanding, I ended up taking too much material out. So I had to cut the wingtips and add some stuff.

50847910222_afccec3b3a_o.jpg

After some sprue goo and sanding, you could hardly they they have been extended.

50847910167_356fe2fae6_o.jpg

The wingtips in place, it seems good, just need to tidy up the seams.

50847826121_ac5782cdcc_o.jpg

Again, after some sprue goo and sanding, we have a nice fit.

50847100428_a82ae6a3aa_o.jpg

Scribing some details in.

50847826011_22fc24d4f5_o.jpg

And we are done! Will have to do the seats next and close the canopy and we can start the painting process. :)

Underside colour is done. Still need to paint the wheel wells aluminium/silver and start working on the topside.

50904023822_5bc362d63f_o.jpg

I've been trying to find colour photo with the Belgian clunk with the rocket pods - but I haven't still found one. It seems that the canadians had silver pods with black front & rear caps for the aluminium planes - and camouflaged birds had grey front & rear caps, seems to be the topside grey colour. The actual rocket pod seems to blue/grey like here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Canada_CF-100_Canuck#/media/File:CF-100s_423_Sqn.jpg but now I started thinking whether the blue is for training pod?

Any info/idea about the actual rocket pod colours for Belgian Clunks would be appreciated...

You look to have a smooth coat of paint down there Reini and your wing extensions are well integrated  :goodjob:

Are those pod bodies PRU Blue? If they were to carry live rounds anywhere I'd say the weapons training ranges would be the place it's going to happen.

No idea! But I like the look of them so unless I find any better reference I think I keep'em.

50920158317_d1aea894aa_o.jpg

Masking the undersides. I went with black undercoat, mottled over with some white/light grey.

50920158267_8fbd0eeca5_o.jpg

Dark Sea Gray done.

50920026576_023dccbf96_o.jpg

Masking for the green. I used tape and blu-tack 'worms'. I tried to keep it close to the model surface just to create slight feathered edge, but not too much to make it look out of scale. I used a metal tool to help lay it down and make the lines look bit more squiggly and not too smooth.

50919334253_576e7e5e00_o.jpg

Green is done... removing the masks...

50920026506_ea6fc76a9d_o.jpg

Main camo colours done :) Masking for the black edges on the wing and nose next.

Final round of masking (I hope), the black areas on the nose and wing leading edges.

50928599467_3e39261c08_o.jpg

And here we are now. Pretty happy with the result, no need to touch up anything really so I can move on to the decals.
