It’s sometimes sold as rubbing alcohol. I’ve asked for IPA in chemists and they mostly don’t have a clue. It is also fairly scarce and expensive as it’s used for hand sanitizer.

Hi I bought IPA from Thoroughbred Remedies in the Curragh near the racecourse, they sell it for cleaning tackle, but i dont know if they are open during this lockdown.i

What an untidy model helicopter.

So untidy it's brilliantly realistic, thanks for teaching me how Johnny.

A lot of lessons learned and lots of daunting "Dare I?"s.

Going to outstand your other masterpieces at this rate when finished, phew.

Really splendid paint and weathering... I stay in awe !!

Tomorrow, I'll start some flory on my RNDFF Hurri !!

I really love that stuff !!

Sincerely.

I have no clue. I can't even see the stuff you're talking about re the streaking fluid. Or maybe I can but I don't know what I'm looking at?

Either way, the end result is gorgeous!

I also got the AK streaking fluid on the go and added some subtle filters.

A mat coat was applied and some drying happened before I started opening her back up. 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for no over spray.

The Spadgent’s style at its best! 👏 Looks very artistic, Johnny.

Thanks Ian. Subtlety is the key I guess 🤣. If you look under the hinges for the exhaust cowl above the rear door in the first pic you can see something that looks like dirt or grime has run from them. Most of the lines and hatches have subtle brown running grime. In the pic with the winglets you can see the panel lines and areas around the pylons are slightly discoloured. That’s the streaking stuff. And the brown bits on the belly, around the circles of rivets. That too. It’s a bit like a pin wash but super light. So light you might just miss it. 😨🤗😲😀🥳

Wow, I don't get on here for a few days and its almost done!  The streaking fluid is a new one to me... I kinda wish there were stores you can browse through because things like streaking fluid are completely unknown to me until I see some one use them. The effect is brilliant.

This is a beautifully dirty helicopter.  And very nearly done! :)

Here’s a tutorial thing from AK.

I bought a set that had three pots but it seems out of stock on Amazon.

But this is the stuff.

AK Interactive AK00024 Dark Streaking Grime 35ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0050IW85W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_TZ7NDTMW364504Y09942

I use it as a filter too. 😇 give it a try.

Good evening chums. A little more done and creeping closer to the finish line. Well the weapons. 🤪

the landing gear that I assumed would be an easy fit wasn’t. Apart from one locating hole the resting points were vague to say the least especially as the slope to this puppy is all important.
eventually via the gift of blu tack I managed to get the rear legs in place.

50989983681_8d0cd4006d_b.jpg

The locating hole is the leg closest to the star. The rest just kind of settle at points along the inner frame.
it’s a bit of a leap of faith but I got the initial position and did a few tests with the wheels and then totally secured with CA “rocket blue”

50989983946_74a2d17934_b.jpg

This gave a very strong structure the next day. 💪

The front let was a much better proposition as I had lined up the rear strut already prior to painting. These two sections slotted in with no trouble.

50989282628_2efa59f40d_b.jpg

Looks better from this angle. 😀 plus you can see some of the streakin..... oh you can’t 🥲 never mind. 🤣

50989282293_21a14758b6_b.jpg

Well after the night time dry I did a dry wheel fit.

50989983716_9cdd863791_b.jpg

Looks all squiff. Which in this case is good.

50989282448_221eab7b46_b.jpg

I still need to finish the tyres off so one last shot before I pop them off.

There’s quite a bit of wiggle room with the fit of the wheels so I’m happy that I can get the fit right.

50989282193_1e7430c5d1_b.jpg

I cut and primed all the actuator arms for the door but apparently didn’t take a picture. 🥸😩 I was worried about having the cowl and the cargo door open at the same time but this shows that it should be ok.

plus @Nikolay Polyakov’s picture on page one shows that it does happen. 🤗

50989983886_20bbef8be9_b.jpg

So as well as the doors getting ready I started to build the rotors. These should be the last big thing before guns.

this is the main stem.

50989983616_2501d39914_b.jpg

And then the big head gear part.

50990094662_dbc99f2a1b_b.jpg

The detail is great. I’ll add some wiring but over all I think it’s top notch.

The tail rotor comes in two bits and is great too.

50989282248_d34cfddc95_b.jpg

Back to the main gear I wanted to paint all the rotors individually but the way they are constructed means I would get a seam so there was nothing else I could do but.

50989984011_1d874208c2_b.jpg

Lovely looking thing. And pretty BIG too.

50989282383_27326d4c2a_b.jpg

And that’s yer lot. Next step it to get all the hatches on with their actuators in place then I can fit the cowls. Rotors and then..... guns. ☺️

Hope you’re all having a splendid weekend. It’s quite sunny in middle Britain. 👌

Happy moddeling you lot.

During some tests I decided to glue the MLG struts prior the painting on its little counterpart - Mi-24A. I think it’ll be the time-saving action regarding the final assembly steps.

Looks great, Johnny! 👏 Also the wings and all the pylons have the proper angles (I spent this evening fitting these in right positions).

I’m pretty sure that having blades glued before the painting is the best way to go. 👍

Excellent progress so far, Johnny! Keep up the good work, Sir. 😉
