Life will look different after  those rivets !!!!

May I suggest an eggplane after this build?

Do you mean the cartoon ones? I love those but spend a good half hour trying to choose one then shutting the browser. 😮

Actually the riveting looks pretty good. I was afraid that it would look like something off the back end of the titanic ( I shan’t take out my riveting soapbox, but I’m sure you’ve seen me opine on them and my years as a PWA 16 specification expert :) ) I’m still eager to see some camo go on the thing.

I also see that there’s a proposal for a hind STGB next year, could be fun.

Well they’re not coming off again. At least the ones that didn’t peel off with the carrier film removal. Here’s to paint. 👏

You’re not wrong.

Hey Johnny, impressive perseverance with the rivets, they look great! I am taking notes on how to apply rivet decals for later builds...

Thanks. I wish I had better notes for you to follow but still I have no clear path.

Morning Britmodellers.

What time I have had over the past couple of weeks has been full of dots making the name of this thread VERY relevant indeed. My view at the bench for this weekend has been thus.

50844718462_d97cd2e0fb_b.jpg

And as I lie on the Sofa at the back of the cave writing this I can say I’m done.💆‍♂️💆‍♂️💆‍♂️
Not as in giving up as I’m done with the rivets. The ipa worked to a fashion, I have no more advice as to the best way of doing this pass other than what has been documented so far. For the last section I used cotton buds, paint brushes, T-shirt’s. None were better that the last. I had some dissolve easily (mainly straight lines) some would just lift right off (mainly straight lines 😩) and some would bubble and peel up. I think I have managed to keep a majority on the helicopter but Daym!!! That was a struggle. If anyone does attempt this and find an easier path please let me know. We are here.

50844636861_b3a66b9271_b.jpg

I have masked all the holes with damp tissue and the front engine holes with tape. She is ready for a cockpit inner colour then primer.
Strangely “Take five” is on Cerys’s Radio 6 show right now which is what I’m doing.

50844740867_d6755eef2c_b.jpg

Time to set up the booth.

Hopefully this hill has reached its peak. All down hill from now on.

More later on.

I do like your work station you have there Johnny.

It is stuck in the corner of the front room, so does limit what I can use.

But at least it is warm and dry.

It will be great to see some paint on her mate.

Stay safe.

Simon.

Excellent and relatively fast work, my friend! 👍 The riveted surface looks like the real unpainted thing.

Irvine Welsh? 🙂 I’m having lovely memories of his books back in the early 2000s when I was a student... «The Acid House» was a bit shocking!

Evening you lot.
More has been done with this beastie.

seems like the rivets had one more trick up there pesky sleeves for me before they lay down.

Let me explain.

First up I had to get the inside colour of the canopy on. So ...

50846721062_542b028cf0_b.jpg

And tother side.

50845960273_1a40048d78_b.jpg

All fine and dandy. Now let me tell you after the rolling and dabbing and brushing of the past week or so I was a little worried I might get a little fuzz in the paint but I did my very best to rod myself of it.  From here she looks fine.

50846685486_f96f019330_b.jpg

Alas close up she looks like a microscopic floor mite. 😩

50846634681_0471b8ccbd_b.jpg

I set the lights for maximum horror! 🧟‍♂️
What a to do. Well I figured I’m in now so I waited for a partial dry and sprayed her nethers. She then sat a while to dry.

After an hour or two drying ( Tamiya primer is great for that ) I spent a good hour or so with the tweezers and rubbing with my bare fingers until we were here.

50846772942_2688d36c91_b.jpg

And the tail. You can see that although a right royal pain to install the rivets look really good under paint. 😀

50845909288_970566c6f7_b.jpg

Not quite out of the woods yet. I left her for a while and came back with fresh eyes and my secret weapon.

50846721542_a006038a08_b.jpg

That did the trick. A good half hour gently brushing and smoothing and all of Ze fluff was banished. 🤩🤩🤩

I did a once over for fit and gaps. The only bit I had to fill was the canopy to the nose. PPP sorted that.

50846685501_327da38b24_b.jpg

Not wanting to leave her there I decided my last task for the day would be a pre shade. 😇

I think I’ll do a double pre shade as I’ve been talking to @VT Red Sox Fan about this over on his lovely build.

so here we are with the black on.

50846772927_e60fd0a75d_b.jpg

And from the front. I added a bit of variation free hand before using my stencil.

50846685496_a8b314737b_b.jpg 50846721357_f99e71776e_b.jpg

Hey @CedB what’s this? 😂

50846721462_d57f232545_b.jpg

sorry couldn’t resist. 🤣🤣🤣

After that I used the Ushi stencil to add some mottled variation.

50845960323_75fabea3ed_b.jpg

I’ll use thinner coats again to slow this to show through.

50846721447_62df5c90f5_b.jpg

And there we are. I’ll add a white pass to boost the middle of the panels before heading for Colour. I’m happy with that.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hope you are all having as good a weekend s as possible.

 Take care and as always.

Happy modelling.

Johnny. 🐊

B**** brilliant finished job coming along, I was ____ scared that using the family toothbrush was going to whip off all the rivets in wide swathes

Looking awesome Johnny! Helicopters have never really been my bag, (Memories of rotor blades lasting about 5 minutes on any of my childhood builds) but after following this, and rewatching the epic HBO Chenobyl series again, I'm very tempted to do a Mi-8 ...

I’m glad that there was enough rivets for the whole model and that all is visible after priming.

Phew, for a short moment it was Dr. Spadgent's House of Horror all over again... but it looked worse than reality.

This will be a good example for @VT Red Sox Fan, I loved how your mottled variation from the stencils looked on your Horton -- and that's what prompted me to get my stencils.  Thanks mate! :)

Thanks. Yes it’s a good opportunity to run through the process again.

They’re a nice departure from Aeroplanes while still having the same great bunch of faces tagging along. 🥰

His name is actually from “A nightmare before Christmas” Jacks dog is called ZeRo. 😇

Evening you lot.

Thanks for all the lovely comments.

just a quick update to show @VT Red Sox Fan what I was wittering about on his thread about a white boost on my pre shade.

basically it’s a little bit more that 1:1 thinned Tamiya white airbrushed in the centre and high points in a bit of a flamboyant squiggle fashion.

50853416386_f8dacee329_b.jpg

Better on this shot.

50853506807_c232701a78_b.jpg

As these things are usually well worn I’m going to go full tilt.

You can use this to accentuate some of the panels you might have been a bit too harsh with on the black pass. See the top panels.

50853506792_a7438907d2_b.jpg

You can really see the mottles here.

50852692173_1d28b4d184_b.jpg

This will (he says) form a solid worn base for the top coat. I’ll let that dry for now but I did prime the other Hind.

ahhhhh. Paint everywhere. 😍😍😍

Hope your week’s going well.

More soon.

Johnny.
