looks like you are really enjoying this build Ced.  It's certainly getting your creative juices flowing.   Maybe steampunk aircraft is your thing ?

if you want a model that looks realistic, you need to 'zoom in' your eyes and correct all the imperfections.

Er that little pinky, don't you have a grandson you could train up?

Just thinking out loud.

Where his mom can't hear me...

:rofl2:

Thanks Bill :)

Otto has started smiling and laughing now so my interest has increased.

Might be a bit too young for modelling though… give it another few weeks.

You and I are clearly giving the word "messy" a very different meaning... :banghead:

Superb job on the inner intake, BTW :worthy:

As for smoothing Milliput, I did use make up sponge brushes to good effect, they're tiny enough to reach inside those intakes.

KUDOS on reworking the flaps,   way to go!

Ciao

Messy for me! :D

Thanks Giorgio - I'll give the makeup brushes a try.

Thanks hendie :) Steampunk? Might be…

The other intake has been mostly finished:

… although, as usual, that picture has shown up the faults

Ready to try Giorgio's makeup brush trick later:

Before that, I need to deal with the seams and remove the rivets.

As I've said before, Micromesh is great at removing lumps so:

Can you see how far I got before the mojo went?

Are you WiPing the bus? Can't see one yet.

I am too busy drawing plans, 'the piece here is 10'6" what is that at 1/32? Oh yes it should be...' or 'That radius is 164 mm on the unscaled plan, what shall it be at 1/32 scale?'

If I start a vehicle WIP on this yet it will be back at page norty before I can cut plasticard so I wont bother yet.

Not to worry I am bound to let it slip when I do, proper publicity shark I am after all.

I can’t believe that you hadn’t discovered foam make-up brushes ‘til now!

That seat looks good dunnit.

John

I know John, I know. Proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

To be honest I had some - just never used them! :)

Fair enough Bill - I'll watch out for it :)

Foam brushes at the ready:

I think this is as good as I'm going to get at the moment:

I'll see what it looks like under colour.

Meanwhile, sanding and filling continues:

You're right Giorgio - a heck of a lot :)

Using Giorgio's 'dry marker method' for checking the seams:

It really shows up the faults:

Darn it.

That's what they all say.

Lovely intakes BTW. Smooooth.

Did anyone else notice all those lovely rivets on the Aero Flight P1127?

Countersunk/Flush/Smooth. Every single one of them. What were Airfix thinking?

Just make sure you remove every last bit of it when you're done, otherwise it can bleed through the paint for years to come.

Nice abrasion action Ced

Actually,  the good thing about using a white board marker is that it doesn't show through paint - at least the kind I'm using; it's a very generic one, though, I don't see any reasons for being different from what you guys can find.

On the other hand, if you use a permanent marker,  that will show through no matter what

But Airfix aways used to put rivets on to indicate natural metal.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Ah ha! Method to their madness then :)

Thanks for warning hendie, but… :)

It is a whiteboard / 'dry erase' marker so I'm happy! :)

You have rivets. I need rivets. That’s 2020’s final poke in the eye. 🤣

Lovely sanding And indeed smoothing Ced. I need one of those pens. 👍

Johnny

Oh darn it, sorry Johnny, I've thrown them away :D

I should have done my normal 'read BM before progress' - stops me doing something and then reading a 'don't do that' comment.

Final pass for errand rivets:

50664013381_afb2daabb2_z.jpg

I couldn't find the main gear leg so looked in the spares box. The SHAR parts were on top:

50664013971_fc83e628ce_z.jpg

I think this will do, although I guess it was strengthened for carrier landings so may need a chop here and there.
I'll check on the Prime Portal walk around.

Wheels need touching up too.

I have noticed a couple of things on there.

The outriggers have clear nav lights on the very tip.

There are two strakes on the underside. Rats.

They show quite clearly on the photos and on Nick Greenall's 1/48 build which has plans.

I think I'm ready to do those things, then assemble the main parts and prime.

Strakes.

Dymo tape for guidelines:

50664238736_5c6de2bdcd_z.jpg

What was the hardest bit of that?

Getting the tape lined up?

Making sure it was in the right place?

Nope.

Getting the blasted backing tape off the Dymo!

Fiddly.

Slots chiselled:

50663508608_39801a1424_z.jpg

Strip glued at the front:

50663521093_1f410edc2e_z.jpg

I'll glue the back down when that's dry.

Better, way better than excellent already Ced.

Will you be OK with the Harrier main leg ( damn another missing piece, really sorry Ced) or can you wait for me to get upstairs into the den to take a photo alongside a steel rule for size comparison?

About two o'clock.

😵 My very bad...

Thanks Giorgio, Keith and Rog :)

Bill I would appreciate a side shot of the leg if you have time - it'll be a while before I need to scratch it or hack the SHAR one so it'd be a good reference…

From the walk around pictures I think the P1127 was much simpler than later variants?

Thanks Bill, you're a star! :)

Wing roots attacked with a riffler:

50664688682_ff58655542_z.jpg

…and filled with Vallejo:

50664631991_9b894c45cf_z.jpg

People say you can apply this stuff and 'just wipe it with a wet finger' to get a perfect join.

There must be something wrong with my fingers - if I do that the filler comes out.

Who said 'sticky fingers' - cheek!

Strakes shaped at the ends:

50664712677_8f195e46d8_z.jpg

Now then, painting.

If I use AK paste (my favourite as you know) I won't need primer.

But it'll be shiny.

Which I can tone down with varnish.

Or maybe I should grey prime first.

Hmmm, I shall ponder.

Hi There,

I usually use a damp cotton bud and it works well enough.

As, always it's a pleasure to read through one on your builds.

Great work being done here and glad you put that pilot in his place when he was being difficult about being painted.

Cheers,

Alistair
