You made me go and look at photos   To be honest there's such a variety I doubt it's possible to paint the nose the wrong shade of grey

Just have to use our imagination!

Would be good to see a few of these Squadrons back, if and when we get more F-35s.

Niiice!!! Almost there Dave...great job!!!

Thanks Alex!

More progress today and I am starting to see the chequered flag with this one. I added the Flory panel wash this morning, leaving it for over an hour before removing the excess. Due to the amount of filler used and subsequent sanding, I had to correct some panel lines with a mixture of scalpel and HB pencil. Once done, I used a mixture of Abteilung oils for the weathering. The trickiest bit was the soot on the tail fin from the thrust reversers. A flat coat sealed the lot in.

Seats were popped in, pitot tube went on, as did the nav lights and stabilisers:

Not looking too bad. I also toyed around with an 'armed' placard, as I've seen a few pictures with one of these behind the windscreen:

It might be a tad out of scale. It's only set in place at the minute until I decide wether to leave it or not. Aside from that, I've fitted the landing gear and left to cure overnight. Surprisingly, this fitted without any issues. I'm sure that will change when I add the doors

More soon and stay safe.

All your hard work is definitely paying off Dave as she really is looking fantastic.

The weathering looks great and that tell tale muck from the thrust reversers is very good.

Really close to the finish now mate!

Thanks mate! It's looking better than I thought it would all that filler ago!

Looking really good Dave!!

Love the stains from the reverser.

Thanks Alex. I struggled with it initially, took several passes with oils to get it looking semi-correct.

I think you got it pretty good on the fin, but you should maybe add some stain on the fuselage.

These are two pictures I took in Oberschleißheim...50km from our home 😁

I know it's an ECR, but I doubt it's much different on the ADV

Cheers Alex, great picture there and very sooty indeed! The images I have of the F.3 show less soot but I will add a bit to the fuselage too.

Nearly there thankfully. Landing gear doors on firstly and, as predicted, they were a pain. The locating tabs on the main gear doors are far too big and need trimmed back in order to sit. Once set, I added the missiles and 'big jugs':

A bit more staining from the thrust reversers was added as per the image from Alex above:

The canopy is ready to go on but I want to wait until I have the additional Remove Before Flight tags fitted to the intake covers before I fit it because knowing the way my luck has gone with this kit, it is likely to break into a hundred pieces or something equally drastic . Hoping the package from Hannants will be here in the next few days and then I can put this nightmare of a kit to bed.

More soon and stay safe.

Great to see her with her undercarriage on and fully tooled up Dave.

This is about as close to finished as it can get and I really hope that your relief package from Hannants turns up soon as we all want to see you get this one finished.

Thanks mate. I do like the look of the F.3 with all the missiles loaded. It looks like a 'proper' interceptor to me (much like the F-14 did and the Mig-31 does!)

Hannants package arrived this morning, which included these two sets:

Went for the HGW offerings for the intake covers as they were more flexible. A dab of glue and they were on. Canopy popped on and finally this marathon is at an end:

The Typhoon and Tornado together:

More pictures in RFI here

Thanks to all who commented and followed both builds and to those who listened to my constant whinging about the Tornado. It was a slog in the end, one which I have no desire to repeat anytime soon. Those two GR.4s will remain unbuilt for a while yet!

Stay safe

Great result, fair result for the effort put into it.

Always surprised how big the Typhoon looks when posed with other aircraft.

Great stuff - getting along with my Typhoon - can I ask what colour you painted the AIM-132s? Are they light aircraft grey ? I’ve fine both my Meteors and AIM-132s in FS36375 but suspect I need to redo the AIM-132s looking at yours !

Thanks Tim. I painted the ASRAAM in Light Gull Grey as they definitely have a different hue when compared to wither the Meteor or AIM-120.

A fairly beefy update today, bear with me! Firstly, the Typhoon was pre-shaded last night. As the sun was rising this morning and with the coffee machine on (I refuse to let Revell dictate my morning coffee routine ) I sprayed and detailed the landing gear bays:

50687469926_5c1e19de56_b.jpg

50686718173_15027f9af2_b.jpg

Once dry and the coffee savoured, I masked up the landing gear bays then went all in and sprayed the Camouflage Grey. A few light coats was all that was needed. The joy of working with MRP is that it's dry within minutes. I didn't tempt fate however and left an hour between the overall grey and masking up the nose etc. ZK306 has quite a defined nose cone as you can see here. So I added a drop of flat earth to some Medium Sea Grey. Below is the result:

50687551542_c870239ac3_b.jpg

50687468616_91a066c711_b.jpg

50686716768_7da91c6f49_b.jpg

Happy with that! A few other areas were detailed so now I just need to spray the metallic areas at the rear before gloss and decals. In addition to the painting, I was looking at my references and own photos taken at Lossiemouth and I noticed that the fuel tanks have red circles on them. I had used the low-viz grey ones but since Revell also provide the red ones, I removed the grey and added the red after another coat of gloss. Not as much silvering this time either:

50686715328_6407788f02_b.jpg

While all this was going on, I was slowly plodding away at the torment, sorry, Tornado, in the background. Sanding, sanding and sanding. Clean up, clean up and clean up...but.... I think maybe, just maybe, I'm there:

50687550347_0e49193d90_b.jpg

50686716108_6c15af324b_b.jpg

50687467186_6c6fc07185_b.jpg

Amazingly, all that sanding hasn't actually removed too much detail. A few areas will need a re-scribe, but not as much as one would have expected with such a volume of filling and sanding undertaken. I also had a poke at the intakes and they're maybe not as bad as I'd first feared. I'll see what they're like under a coat of primer before I commit to the FOD covers.

Close of play this evening:

Getting there!

More soon and stay safe

Dave

Asking questions again Dave as I’m looking to get painting soon - can I ask what colour you used for the fin top and leading edge and the front/rear of the wingtip ECM pods ? Was it MSG ? Will copy your nose cone idea !

still not sure what to do, did order some decals with the black spine and tail, a red tail and the BoB camo - but may keep them and use for another build - but the Meteors are a bit out of keeping with 2007 F2s that the box decals represent ....! Still no black IX B Sqn decals yet !
