PhantomBigStu
The Tornado f3 I haven’t got round to was meant to be my second entry but something leap frogged it, having a second go at an Iranian f-14 (first one ended up hitting the floor at Mach 2 when the decals disintergrated) Hoped to be the academy kit either new tool or old as local had them on a pre final lockdown visit but seems 2 other locals fancied tomcats, luckily the Revell kit was still on the shelf. Anatol Pigwa
Nice. The Revell kit is quite pleasurable to build IMO, and since it entails all the bits and bobs (RWR suite) of the F-14A, it is quite easy to adapt.

PhantomBigStu
Decided probably not wise to try and do this now so saving it for the F-14STGB in September.

PhantomBigStu
Made a start only to find I can’t do an Iranian f-14 as the kit only had the later GE exhausts……gives me a problem as I don’t have the paint for a usn one so either buy some paint or buy another tomcat kit…. PhantomBigStu
All is not lost, a compromise has appeared, just ordered the A release of the same kit via ebay.....so the build is back on
PhantomBigStu
Anyway whilst I wait for the other kit here’s the current state of play Edited September 25, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
In fact not the state of play as it seems the cockpit parts are slightly different for the A so the build fuselage will be for the D. Also won’t be seeing any progress, hurt my knee playing football so stuck downstairs away from the bench, hopefully won’t be too many days before I can get back to it.

Col.
Sorry to hear that Stu. Hopefully you're back climbing the stairs after a bit of rest and recovery before you begin climbing the walls with boredom.
PhantomBigStu
Cheers guys, knees actually a lot better today and the stairs aren’t feeling so like Everest so done a little bit this morning on a couple of models and took the kit down for priming.
PhantomBigStu
Well things took many turns for the worst since then, been out of the game due to health issues but just made a start on the A. PhantomBigStu
Didn’t fancy any sanding today so only stuff I did for this was print off the paint guide from the Hb 1/48 though I did work on a little quick build I started last night, underside all painted will do the camo tommorow band hopefully some sanding on the tomcat.
PhantomBigStu
Done the worst of the sanding now just some sessions with the finer grades before the light grey can go on, also done the camo on the 190.
PhantomBigStu
Few specific areas to target but the underside is mostly sanded and painted pale grey Edited October 31, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
Sanded and topside camo (sand is more orange in the flesh) applied though few touch ups of the sand as well as paint the fuselage sides sand and tan. Also got the 190 decal ready though I stuffed the decals in an attempt to get the RLM04 to match previous builds so got some careful masking and steady brush painting to do before the rest of the decals can go on Edited November 4, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
Been a bit fiddly with the camo as the tans are Vallejo which take longer to dry and had to redo a few bits but it’s all done and coated with gloss varnish. Now to paint the anti glare panel, anti friction bit, silver leading edged and the white nose.
PhantomBigStu
Touching up the underside proved to be a lot more complex than I appreciated last week, real life intervened and also ended up having to order some more grey paint which cost many days. Next job is definitely the masking. Edited November 21, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
