Dubz
Master Korabel were so kind to sent me their new 3D printed gun barrels which will be included in future kits. Beautiful 3D print, minimal reworking necessary (6 support joints carefully sanded away), blackened with sharpie to add a bit of "shine". The skylight was also finished. The new gun barrels: In the macro you can see slight structures of 3D printing Aber "normal" betrachtet sehen die ganz passabel aus 🙂 cheers Dirk

Dubz
Thanks Kev 🙂 We build ourselves a binnacle ... actually there were three 😛 And the window between the compartments made of mica 🙂 The one included in the kit, the compass should be in the middle, but I think that's wrong and doesn't work with the chimney ... in the future there will be another one with two compasses in the kit 🙂 The second attempt, after a hint from Eugen von MK also a smaller one (the Polotsk is said not to have had the "big one") ... full of innovation, a lamp in a light-proof cabinet ... super Dirk! All three iterations Greetings Dirk
ArnoldAmbrose
Gidday Dirk, they're incredible, particularly considering their tiny size. Regards, Jeff.
dnl42
Lovely workmanship! The version on the left looks like a misinterpretation of a two compass binnacle. Did the kit include the mica or did you cleave it yourself?
Dubz
Left seems indeed a misinterpretation even I found some example in the Danish archives showing it this way. The kit will change to a more correct binnacle as I heard though. Thats why I made the small, correct one scratch. The mica is not part of the kit but mine 🙂 cheers Dirk
Dubz
And ready. I am not 100% satisfied with the macro but I think it is "ok" 🙂 cheers Dirk
Dubz
Today I would like to introduce one of my favourite indispensable tools. A set of miniature reamers (Selva hand reamer assortment - 6 pieces - Ø 0.15 to 1.40 mm.). Whenever holes need to be enlarged in wood (blocks), plastic or metal or holes need to be made in the smallest brass strips (mini hole "hammered in" with a pin and hammer and enlarged with the reamer) then the small reamers come in handy. And a few fresh pictures of the Polotsk. cheers Dirk
Dubz
Thanks for the likes guys, really appreciated 🙂 Deadeyes - chain plate assemblies & else 🙂 cheers Dirk
Dubz
After a little break I started to work on the masts. Here I did not use the (very good but not pear) round woods included in the kit but made some from pear. For this I built myself a "Spar Gauge" to be able to transfer the square wood cleanly into an octagon. Then it was planed. And turned. Round they are 🙂 Were then processed on the lathe until they got their desired shape. Then went further. cheers Dirk
Dubz
Further work on the lower masts. Some more details 🙂 cheers Dirk

Murdo
Fabulous work Dirk! Really quite fabulous! Would the black areas be wood or metal?
Dubz
Thanks guys 🙂 It's all wood but the small little parts with the "nails" 🙂 cheers Dirk
Dubz
The bowsprit with jib boom was built. Three iron bands are still to come I was also able to finish the second Mars mast part. Getting closer 🙂 cheers Dirk
Dubz
Thanks for your likes! 🙂 Now the last details of the masts have been finished. Doing the leather imitation in 1:72 was harsh for my eyes 😛 cheers Dirk
Dubz
I have been sent some very nice new 3D printed "samples" from Master Korabel that I would like to show. And I finally managed to finish my Ropewalk and do some initial testing. The first results, I am not dissatisfied. Used Gutermann Mara color is 2899 for the light (I will also try to "mix" that with 265) and 696 for the dark brown. Videos: https://www.indee.de/gallery#16186525960213/16186527609249 https://www.indee.de/gallery#16186525960213/16186526636863 More images: https://www.indee.de/gallery#16186517627110 Now it's time for fine tuning (hoofd still jerks me too much) and I also need Mara 220 for thinner ropes. cheers Dirk
Dubz
Yesterday I made my first anchor cable 🙂 First I made 3 ropes with 3 x 2 Mara 70 right handen (diameter is 0.62 mm) and with these the left handed anchor cable.. The first attempt went wrong, the sledge was too light for it. Then I put a kilo on it and it was much better. But I could imagine adding another 500g or even another kilo of weight. I will build a weight sledge to attach to it 🙂 Here are a few pictures, the cable has a diameter of 1.4 mm: I have also made another video: https://www.indee.de/gallery#16186525960213/16189063254663 cheers Dirk
ArnoldAmbrose
Gidday Dirk, these are very good. If you're going to make all your own ropes aren't you glad you're not doing a three-decker like HMS Victory? 🙂 Regards, Jeff.
Dubz
Haha, absolutely. And all the 108 guns ... puhhh .. I love small boats 🙂 cheers Dirk
beefy66
I was blown away with the woodworking skills now he goes and makes his own ropes do you braid hair as well Dirk. Stay Safe beefy 1
Dubz
Thanks Beefy and the likes .... Unfortunately the days of longer hair are long gone 😄 The fine-tuning of the Reeperbahn proves to be a bit tough, as expected, even though routine sets in. Somehow the brown yarn behaves differently from the beige. At the moment I'm trying to build a very smooth running hoofd carriage so that it runs "earlier" and above all quietly. This is also necessary for the thin ropes I have to do. It is not 1:48 but 1:72. Furthermore, I have to find out how to get all the diameters I need. Some of the "recipes" of others absolutely do not fit 😞 There are also uncertainties when measuring the ropes diameter, as my "measurements" differ greatly from the ropes of others. I will take another look today and measure everything again. Master Korabel was kind enough to laser the handrails in a beautiful pear (the black wood of the kit is very rough here), so that I could now also start to tackle this part of the construction. I am torn as to whether I should leave it natural or, which would certainly be more historically correct, give the handrail a black coat of paint (what I think I need to do :-)). cheers Dirk
Niall
I can't say for other countries but in the Royal Navy rope sizes were listed by circumference not diameter, this might explain why your sizes look wrong.
