Hasegawa 1/48, F-104G Starfighter

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Begin of a new build, the Hasegawa F-104G, which will be a Zipper of the Danish air force with the faded, abused, green scheme.

I have recently purchased the new Kinetic kit and the only difference is that Hasegawa has been litteraly bombing the kit with recessed rivets, which would be a blessing on any other kit, but the Starfighter skin was as smooth as a baby butt ....

so , I have to fill in these rivet, especially on the tail and fin area.

I first elected to use Mr. Surfacer, but the damn thingies won't fill, the Surfacer remaining on the rivet circumference. Well, plan B, filling with CA glue, one rivet at a time .....

As the wings and stab are also  totally pock marked, I've been electing to go go the lazy path and ordered the DACO wing set, void of rivet. More about it when received.

Tedious ! but worth the effort.

Hello Guys,

More progress on the F-104, amongst other projects ....

Been essentially working the cockpit and ejection seat. The kit seat is a bit over simplified and looks wider than real thing on the pictures, well ....

Been rounding the corners of the parachute pack and drilled a hole to host harness.

Exhaust also painted and the fuselage is currently being closed.

Next, I'll wait for the delivery of the DACO set for the wings and stab, with no rivet to fill !

Hello guys,

Just received the DACO set "Sprue A", covering the wings and stab for the Zipper, all without these darn rivets.

This set is really a game changer holding a lot of interesting elements : seats upper parts, 2 types, 2 types of canopy defoging systems inner frame, helmets of various types withe their inhalers, a spare front wheel, main gear doors, inner engine enhancement. Worth every cents of the fair price (less than 15 euros).

I'm just going to use it ASAP

Hello all,

Well after completing the Beaufighter, back to the Zipper.

DACO wings are in place as well as wingtip gas bags. Speking of them gas bags, do you know who's the dummy who put winglets inverted front to back ? Yep, yours trully.

Anyway this is corrected and after working several seam with purtty and mister surfacer, on with a coat of YZC.

On with the piccies ....
Winglets are inverted front to end

I can see them OK now Stef, thanks. Must have been a problem with site/link. It sometimes happens, and a refresh sorts it.

Now that I can see, I have to say what a fantastic job you are doing!

Hello,

The DACO set is really a must have, just to avoid filling all this awful rivets on the wings. 🙃

It will be in the Royal Danish AF markings, with  a quite beat up camo. I'm aiming toward that plane, R-851 .... RDAF R-851 F-104G

Of course I've been picking up quite a bunch of ref pics and will mix effects.

Best,

Hello again,

@Paramedic : their F-100, too, are very spectacular .... The exhaust are is just shouting orange and copper, heated green paint and so on. I'll do one soon enough 😃.
More work on the greens ...

Pics a re a tad over exposed, shades are normally deeper.
