silver911
At last...some genuine progress on the wings Front wing has been 'Metalized' using the C1 Metalizer...a couple of small imperfections...the largest of which will be covered by a decal...the others I can live with. PE end plates are in place...along with the PE mounting plates...and the PE supports...all the PE was heat treated as per my usual technique..... The rear wing was given a fresh sanding with an 800 grit sponge...which was done to assist with the colour split between the upper section and the main body. After again consulting with Malc2...he confirmed my suspicion that the top section was...in all likelihood...fiberglass...as opposed to the ali of the main body...as can be seen in this close up... You can also see the 'Gurney' flap clearly...and I have painted mine to match..... I re-heat treated the mounting plate as well..... Then it was a return to the re-prepped rear wing body. This now has the finish I had hoped for (silver)...along with the colour separation. Once the colours are fully dry...I will metalize the main body...and weather the white section to match the ref pic..... Still a lot more to do...bur a decent amount of forward progress made Ron to be continued............
Codger
Excellent result. Looks like the troubles are behind you - no pun. I mean rear wing...errr....forget about it.....
Pascal
That's the perfect shine for a scale model. If it were more mirror-like, it would look like a toy, less of shine and it wouldn't look like metal. Top job Ron !

The level of shine is the one thing you cannot truly judge from photo's...and the shade of paint to use is important when using a 'metalizer'...although a basic silver seems to have worked well enough on the front wing. Your point about a mirror finish = toy is the exact reason I removed the kit chroming...it always looks wrong...which defeats the whole object of trying to replicate the 'real' thing. Thank you again for your input and support. Ron
silver911
Work continues on the rear wing. Main body 'metzlized'...upper section weathered and coloured as per the ref pic I posted previously...which I used my usual oils for. It's a shade darker...but will appear lighter once the 'Gurney' flap goes on...this is because...when you put a darker colour/object next to a lighter one...the lighter one will appear lighter still (old printers trick)..... While I give this 48 hours to dry...I will move on to putting red on the end plates...and also the top side panels...which...once those panels are in place...will allow me to finally finish the cockpit/tub. to be continued............

Best, Andrew Many thanks Andrew Pleased you like the end result. Have to say...the problems were a huge surprise to me! I have never...in 45 years of modelling...come across anything quite like the issues I encountered with the wings...and...whilst it's seemingly beaten now...it really has soured my enjoyment of the build. A forced break whilst I raise funds for red paint and clear...for which I am going back to 'Zero'...as I just could not get on with Tamiya Lacquers no matter what I did. I suggest this would be a good time for you to give us just a few pix of completed assemblies to this point. I always found the review helpful to keep an eye on direction of build, quality achieved so far and incentive to complete the vision. There is so much here that would be great for us to see again.......
