silver911
I find it interesting comparing your reference pic with your work Dan...we modellers strive for precision and neatness...whilst in reality...the original is far from those aims Usual very high standard of fabrication mate...a joy to view.
Pouln
Jaw dropping execution. What sort of time frame are we looking at? Any idea how much time you put into this?
PROPELLER
You are too kind gentlemen... To Poul, I spent approximatively 7 month on the "tub". I can say that with the input dates of the pics. (Photo Mac OX) I found some drawings too... Now, the engine story. Another gift by Mr Monogram, the engine block. A Ford V8 Stay as another Ford V8... For the deuce, it was a flathead engine, mine: Here on the chassis... But the GT40's engine is quite different... As usual, the result: We will come back on it, first the gerbox. The real thing, a beauty... Unfortunately no construction pics! Something miss? NO: Have a fine WE! Dan.

Of course a lathe will be essential! 1_ M2 threaded rod. 2_ M2 nut with shoulder. 3_White material (sprue etc) or painted. 4_M0.8mm threaded rod (glued in the hole 5). 5/6_ 0,9mm holes. You can insert a M2 nut in the cylinder head... Feel free for any question guys! Dan. 5

PROPELLER
Tub, more... And with the engine, dry fitted of course... Some adds on the tub, front frame... Now, rear frame. With it, you can see the first moulded piece, the small "roof". Unfortunately, no pic, and no mould pic ! It was a silicone one, in one part, but I moulded piece by piece, as the rear bonnet here show : Some sanding was needed! Tub is now completed. As usual, to vary the pleasure: Dan.

PROPELLER
Thanks Ron, welcome to the Dan's fan club... Front bonnet. Fiberglass moulding is awful! But I have to do it! Primer, sanding, primer sanding... Inside. The more difficult is: But one day... Great satisfaction! Dan.

Bandsaw Steve
This is AMAZING! 🤩 I think that cars are among the most challenging of all subjects and this one is truly outstanding! I’m really interested to see how you deal with the clear parts. BTW, I am starting to think about purchasing a small lathe / machining tool. Any advice on what to consider would be greatly appreciated.

Any advice on what to consider would be greatly appreciated. You are welcome Steve! I work myself on a Unimat 3 EMCO. Unfortunately out of production since some decades... In Europa we can buy easily used ones. But for you in Australia, I dont know? Regarding new ones lathe I don't suggest China products, but may be perhaps easier for you? New makes: Sherline (USA) is for me a must , secondly Proxxon (DE) good products too. But they are not cheap! And the lathe without tools and accessories can't be useful... Feel free to any question! Clear parts? Before, many hours to "clean" the bonnet... But, one day a test... Then, doors! Beautiful ones isn't? Hinges are very special ones. During a race, mechanics must can "undress" the car in few minutes, like that: The Ford solution for the doors on the tub: On the door: Of course, settings! And sanding, really? Some fiberglassing... Bandsaw Steve
Good information on the lathes thanks @PROPELLER , much appreciated. I do occasionally see some of these units come up second-hand on the internet and any advice or insight that I can get from expert modelling users is very valuable. I’ve heard Unimats are very good but rare now. I think Proxon is looking most likely. Thanks and once again congratulations on that superb model!
