Hello from Down Under

Oz modeller

Recommended Posts

I'd like to introduce myself . I'm Jeff from Melbourne, Australia. I've always had an interest in things either 2 or 4 wheels and have a modest collection of relatively modern scale models, mostly French. None of these were kits to assemble though from manufacturers like Otto, Solido, Vitesse, Burago etc.

So, I was lucky enough to pick up a 1/12th scale Tamiya Renault RE20 F1 model for assembly recently for $AUD30. The plastic bags have never been opened so I expect all the components will be there. Tamiya is a familiar name from my interest in slot cars in the 70's so I'm looking forward to getting this project started.

I quick look through the instructions make it obvious it won't be a single weekend assembly and will be leaning heavily on tips and methods from the experience of others!

Hi Jeff

Welcome to BM, You've come to the right place for tips etc. I've only been here 3-4 months started modelling after 60 year break, oh how things have moved on since the 1950s. I found beer and girls in the 60s then never had the time nor money for models.

I've learned lots, spent lots since my time here, I'm sure you will too 😀

Thank you all for such a warm welcome. I'm not fussed whatever you call me-Jeff or Oz is fine. I've had plenty of others a lot worse!

I'll spend some time getting familiar with the site and the many projects either ongoing or completed before beginning my F1 build.

Hi Jeff from Steve from Sydney, formerly from glorious Melbourne. I used to live in Nunawading

The Renault was the first big F1 kit I did all those years ago. From memory it is an excellent kit.

I wish they did the Lotus of Ayrton Senna in that size with the JPS colours.

I have the smaller Camel Lotus which I am going to do in the JPS scheme. I did get the decals for that car about 10 years ago and it has lived in the box ever since.

Looking forward to your posts and Go Pies !
