This is something I have never built before, an autogyro.

Come to that, I've yet to build a helicopter, perhaps I should being as I used to work for a company that made bearings etc for helicopters.

Anyway, nice box lid and not too many sprues. Good decals and PE.

I've made as start, and all is going together well, albeit lots of small parts. But good detail.

You're right, it is refreshing, no guns etc. And I am enjoying building it.

As I said before, I've never built a helicopter and considering I spend 40+ years making parts for them, is a bit odd. So, I shall correct that soon. I've ordered this.

Cockpit finished, not a huge amount of detail, but enough. I've often spent hours making a cockpit, only for all the work to disappear, only to be viewed through a tiny hole. Enough of my moaning, as I said, the cockpit is finished and then installed in the fuselage, then some nose parts fitted, everything went together nicely with only a tiny bit of filler needed on a couple of the join lines.

Seems pretty promising. Miniart offered us an entirely new world with those autogyros ( I wud call them semi- choppers )

A few bits done today, I used some wood grain decals I had over from a previous build to try and make the ski's look wooden. It has sort of worked, at least there is a bit of texture instead of just flat paint.

Rear ski and engine. Bit of touching up to do.

Main ski's with the wood grain decal. The decal will need a bit of tidying up.

I'm not completely convinced with the effect.

Just a quick dry fit of the rotor support (?) and then a coat of grey primer prior to blue paint tomorrow.

Its not explained in the kit instructions and frankly its also counter-intuitive to anyone with a modicum of knowledge of aircraft but the following passage from the Cierva C30 Operators manual might explain why I think you have the control column in the wrong

position.

The machine is taxied entirely by rudder bar controlling the tail wheel, and the throttle. The wheel brakes are interconnected and controlled by a long handle on the port side of the pilot’s seat. These brakes must not be used except when the machine is stationary or moving very slowly. The rotor brake should always be on when the machine is stationary or taxying. It is not advisable to have one blade either immediately over the nose or tail. This brake is on when the handle furthest away from the pilot, on the port side is on the outside of the quadrant and up. If wind is strong, avoid taxying head into same, except at a very slow rate. Stick must always be locked in the “control” when the machine is on the ground.

Notice the last sentence. What it means is that the small projection on the rear control column should be engaged in the hole in the centre of the rear instrument panel.

@AeronutCan you explain, what you mean that the control column is wrong ? It is in flight position and not fixed permanently in this position. The control column that hangs from the rotor head has, as you say, a small projection. Which, will actually locate into a small hole in the instrument panel, if you look at my photo of the instrument panels, the top panel is the pilots, you can just make out the hole. (Bottom centre of the Panel) So, as I’m displaying this build with its blades folded, I will be locating this pin in the hole. So actually, the control column is only in the wrong position if the aircraft is parked or taxiing.

Good afternoon.

That's the white bits painted white and the blue bits painted blue. Blue makes a lovely change from sombre greens and browns. All went on very well, except one of the tail planes. Where I didn't seal the masking tape tight enough on the white side, so it received a very slight dusting of blue, easily fixed once the blue is hard.

The white is Tamiya XF2 thinned 50/50. And the blue is Ammo by MIG Jimenez Acrylic Colour A.MIG-0086.

I've used MIG paint before (different colour) and I have to say it does spray very well, if anything, better than Vallejo Model Air. Which is good, but I find it dries in the airbrush quite often and, touch wood, I've not had that happen with MIG.

The Tamiya paint was as consistent as always, but I do hate painting with white.
