ChrisL
This is Gerti, an Imperial Guard armoured recovery vehicle that I converted out of Chimera APC and Galvanic Servouhauler kits, with parts from a couple of Imperial Guard tank accessories sprues, some plasticard and some styrene strips thrown in for good measure. As I don't actually play Imperial Guard (except for a Kill Team) I think I have just spent more than 3 weeks building and painting what is effectively a terrain piece, but I'm pretty happy with the end result! The crane is covered with a decent amount of fiddly detail but I figured that once it was in the hands of squaddies almost every part of it would be covered in the same standard green paint, which sped up my own painting considerably! 😀 The airbrush was pretty handy for getting the green base coat over everything, but also allowed me to have a go at some quick weathering - ochre paint to represent dust, and some Tamiya Smoke around what look like engine exhausts and the like. Other than that the paint job pretty much involved standard basic miniature painting techniques, mostly a few washes and a lot of drybrushing. Here's a late WIP shot to illustrate how I had to extend the Chimera's track units to allow the crane to fit between them. It's handy how the Chimera kit, the crane kit and the plasticard all used different colours of plastic so the various parts are easily distinguished. Also this damn thing required nearly 160 rivet heads, made with my punch and die set, which was a particularly tedious build session! I have a Flickr album containing more WIP and finished pictures if you want to take a look.

Pete in Lincs
Not my specialist subject, but very impressive none the less. With all the kit it carries it should cover any eventuality.

The 40k Imperial Guard aesthetic is pretty low tech but like the 40k aesthetic in general there's a "too much is not enough" sort of vibe going on so it felt very appropriate to try and cram as many weapons and pieces of equipment onto Gerti as I could.
