Thanks Lee...., the way it's going though, I'm doubting i'll finish by the deadline........let's see. Small update.....wheels are on. Deciding on doing a little dried mud on them, but again time is pressing. I've decided also, to go naked as regards camo'. There were some just left plain Dunkelgelb, and to be honest, they would (I suppose as intended)...obliterate the detail that's given me additional grey hair.. The filter's and wash's are also complete on the main chassis and upper hull. Wheels in detail.....shiny rims an' all..... Might get some more of the block and tackle and on board tools started today.....in between other chores. catch you all later.....
Redcoat2966
Evening all....small update before sitting down to a movie. Started the tool and on board details.........doesn't look much different than last posted....where does that time go when doing the detail........and general weathering etc in between......to have a break. I now now why I usually don't apply tools to the end as a rule....., won't do that again. Next I think I'll take a break and do a mass burnishing of some track set's for this and some other projects awaiting the final track install's. night all.....

Yes, I always did myself.....I attached them as I made use of the moulded on tool clamp on some and just added the PE levers, so added them to ease building.......not doing that again. I take it you mean that you added the tracks to build, not painted off and added last........I've only done that once, and on and Panther too....my night fighter. I'm still needing to finsish it, but intend to redo the paint job on the turret and the tracks and wheels,....and then muddy it up.

I've always thought it odd painting the tools in situ but some lunatics do it as normal... Looking superb Simon, said it before but I'll say it again you have a very unique/identifiable painting style. Brilliant! Your IR equipped Panther looks great, don't think we've seen that before, really like the colour combination on it. Such great work!
Redcoat2966
Thanks Darryl, glad you like .....I've decided to slow the build and not rush it, but does look like I'll miss the end date at the rate I'm going........ ....and yes, "barking mad" who thinks it's the best route to add them all on in the build, then paint.........I saw your comment on the thread. I suppose I have an excuse though for it this time, as I took a short cut in the build, but lost twice as much time in the painting of them on board.....and I still haven't finished them The Night Fighter I started back in March 2019....here's the build thread.... ..hope to finish maybe next year....." I've heard that before....." I hear from somewhere on the back row.... Thanks again mate.....

On both my Panther builds I have assembled he inner wheels on the hull, attached the lengths of assembled tracks, sprocket and idlers with glue and then slid them off the axles to paint them, here with Mr Surfacer primer.

Ah, OK Bob....I understand. Not a method I've tried yet. It makes sense though, as I've looked at the wheels on this Bergepanther, and all the time I spent painting them and all you really see are the outer one's in full view.....I'll have to look at this way next Panther.

Redcoat2966
Evening all.....just wanted to post the finalised as regards weathering and chipping of the main chassis. I'm weighing up doing some fuel and oil stains on the rear deck, but still deciding. All tools done, but have mislaid the jack....so that will turn up at some point and make it to the clamps. The spare racks at the rear also will go on later as I have to burnish them with the main track links sometime this week or the weekend. View from top..... Next upload she'll have her tracks on Nite all.....

Jasper dog
Looks fantastic Simon, the tools and kit look so good, really good infact as does the exhaust. Obviously your busy at the moment but any chance of a pointer on how you get the wood effect on the handles? Just seam to be really struggling to get something I'm happy and you've nailed it! Imo with the weathering you've done I think it would benefit from some oil staining on the deck. Main thing is don't rush it, same for Steve, if its finished fantastic, otherwise show what's been done it's a real masterpiece. A knocked out project like yours might be my next after this one, as part of another first, a diorama. Your build will be a guiding light to detail.....and from your previous projects, the paint job will follow.....and I agree, if finished great...if not, it'll get done eventually... As regards the paint job on this one.....it's an approach I've developed where many of the chips and scratch's are real one's. I noticed the clear matt coat I put on to seal everything, if rub enough actually comes off with the filter and wash stage, especially if you soften it with white spirit.....then back it up with some light chipping etc by brush. Next project I'm going to use a spirit based (spray can) red primer and see if I can create chipping and worn areas, as the red oxide ( I hope) won't come off and be exposed as in reality. 4 hours ago, Harry Callahan said: Perfekt paint and weathering job. The tools were a pain as I mentioned earlier being on kit, rather than off. The wood was a simple process of a very light blonde yellow sand. Then something like a red mahogany mixed with some of the light base colour and I painted with a very small brush the wood grain. Once that dried, I drop some dark brown panel liner by Tamiya and with a small brush dampened with white spirit blend it out to the centre. If you want to get a lighter centre section. rub it back with a cotton bud dampened with spirit. The ket Darryl, IMO is to over accentuate shadow. No different to stage designers when they do stage backdrops for a show. Creating depth at a 1:35 scale needs to be "pumped up". The metal parts of the tools are painted with burnishable Mr Color burnt iron. Polish them up with a cotton bud, then coat in the natural rust area's with a dark rust pigment with matt varnish, then blend out with water. Once dry you can go back and polish edges etc where the tool is used or handled, leaving other areas with a transparent rust haze........it would have been easier if they were off.... Again thanks to you all for all the positive comments.....keeps me slogging on. Regards Simon. 3

Hi Steve.....I started using Windsor & Newton Galleria matt.........it tended though to not hold up to weathering liquids etc, so I switched to MIG Lucky Varnish matt and satin. They seem to hold up longer, but still break up. If you can control the break up, you can create some unique effects. Try it out on an old hulk and see how you get on. Retired Bob
Amazing work Simon, as others have said, do not rush it and regret it, take your time and finish it all to the same standard. Taking part in the GB is the main thing, finishing it is a bonus. As it stands with the top off showing all the cable drums and reels reminds me of a vintage clockwork toy, honest, I'm not winding you up! 1 1
