Armoured Cars and Halftracks GB Chat

Somehow I think I missed this one.

Have one of these in the “Stash”

If this GB gets up and I have the time I would like to build it if I can find it as I built a vacuform one of these in the early 80s for another Modeller who reckoned he couldn’t make vacuforms.

Welcome to the build @HobbyPaul

A Japanese Self-Defence Force LAV should be OK, it is armoured and it's a car ... Wikipedia lists them as Armoured Scout Cars.

Great - thanks for the thumbs-up.

With the latest postings (above) re-awakening this subject I thought I'd check out what I'd posted

Very odd - my posting of 8/10/20 has disappeared!

Its been quoted a couple of times so there was one

Anyways, I'm still in.

I have the old Airfix M3 US Halftrack and their German Halftrack with 8.8cm gun

Are the newer Jackal and Coyote, as used in recent wars, counted as 'armoured cars'?

No idea what happened to your post, but, I'm glad you are still here.

Those two Airfix kits would be great additions to the build.

I had to google them ... both should be fine (are there any kits for these two?)

Airfix did both the Jackal and Coyote in their 1/48 'Afghanistan War' series and Hobbyboss does the Jackal and will be doing the Coyote, both in 1/35

I have the Airfix kits

I've just remembered I have the Airfix 1/32 ''Rommel's Half-track'' as well

Me! I have a couple of likely candidates in my growing 1/56th scale stash.

John

Excellent, you are welcome too.

1/56 scale? I had to look that up ... looks interesting, there should be several options open to you!

Count me in. Good opportunity to build my Meng 1/35 Rolls-Royce armoured car most likely in one of the First World War versions.

 You are counted too Ray.
Does WWI Rolls-Royce car have wire wheels?  That would be interesting.

Yes Meng provide both the WW1 wire wheels (plastic tyres and rims and PE) and the WW2 solid version (vinyl) . I have been planning to do a small WW1 Mesopotamia diorama including ICM's 1917 ANZAC Model T.  I'll hold off now in expectation that this GB is a goer. One to really look forward to.

Mesopotamia sounds good @Ray_W, hope you can get ahead with the Model T.

Heavily influenced by this image:

BM RR AC Construction 1

D-Day Miniature Studio make this great set. Oh so expensive and oh so tempting. I haven't pulled the trigger on these .... yet. You can buy them separately. Decisions decisions.

Lots of useful detail in that photo Ray, along with some complex tonal variations.
The spill on that near-side front tyre is intriguing (to me), I'd've expected them to grease the hub, not use a fluid?

I wondered about assisting with a tire change and had another thought - no, surely not on their own vehicle unless for good luck.

I have a couple of ideas in mind for this category, so could I belatedly jump on board this GB?

Never too late - until the building over.

Next thing to do is wait for the vote, (in November, I think), and cast your vote for the build
