TimJ
After seeing it mentioned in the 'Choose Your Build' thread I'll be building the 1950 Talbot Lago Record, originally issued in 1979 as kit no.711. TonyW
That's a very elegant looking car. Is there a top up option? It's a shame us Europeans had to put up with soft tops rolled up like a mattress at the rear of the car. The Americans seemed to do things better here, style wise if not boot space wise.
JOCKNEY
Really looking forward to seeing this one getting built, as a classic car fan this is a new one in me, but certainly looks very stylish, best of luck. Cheers Pat
TimJ
It is stylish, those French coachbuilders knew how to design a good looking car. According to my research the car that the kit is based on was built as a one off by Dubos in 1949 for the Marie Brizard liqueur company in Paris. Unlike some of the Heller car kits this one has a one piece body. DSCF1717 by timothy jones, on Flickr Here are the rest of the parts. rob Lyttle
Very much looking forward to seeing this get built, Tim. I had a little shopping event today and the shop had just received a delivery of kits this very morning, including Heller boxes aplenty. I was seriously spoilt for choice and I had a Talbot Lago Record in my hands for some time. In the end it lost out, by the tiniest of margins, to the Delahaye.... Indeed, part of the complex mental calculations involved in making the choice was remembering that this Record was in the pipeline, but nobody had flagged up their intentions to do the Delahaye. The box contents are similar to yours, and I'd say the kits are of the same era. I have the Talbot Lago T26 GP racer underway at the moment and the new kit will have to wait. But I'm loving these Heller cars! 😍❤️🇫🇷
JOCKNEY
Sorry can I ask a daft question, did you spray the parts your intended colours or did they come like that ? Cheers Pat
TimJ
Not a daft question at all Pat. The parts are moulded in those colours.
JeroenS
Hi @TimJ, I think we're all looking forward to seeing more of this great vehicle, I hope you'll be able to fit it in! No pressure 😉
TimJ
Hi Jeroen, this has been slow getting off the mark but there has been a bit of progress. The body shell has had the seam lines removed, which was a bit awkward across the front wings as they went across the top of the headlamp bulges and has been given a coat of primer, along with the bonnet halves. DSCF1870 by timothy jones, on Flickr The underside of the floor had a lot of ejector pin marks so these have been filled and sanded down. DSCF1891 by timothy jones, on Flickr I've had another look through the instructions and assembly doesn't look too involved so I should have it finished before the end of the GB. TimJ
Due to a combination of my slow build rate and over committing to GBs on other forums even with the GB extensions this isn't going to be finished in time. There has been some progress though. Some of the interior parts have been painted and the door handles and window winders touched in with silver paint. DSCF1948 by timothy jones, on Flickr Apart from that and the primer on the body all that has been done is the engine block has been stuck together and the front suspension fitted to the chassis. DSCF1951 by timothy jones, on Flickr Rather than rush to try and get it finished I thought that as it's still less than 25% complete I'd save it for the French Fancy GB later this year when the weather is more conducive to spray painting in the garden if that's allowed.

DreamGarage
Hi Tim, I am making this kit at the moment and have found it relatively straightforward but have hit a snag. The angle of the windscreen is very different from the frame. It is nowhere near !!! I’m sure the frame can be flexed to meet the clear part but there will be a fair amount of tension on it. I’m thinking it is going to need supergluing but I’m worried about clouding the plastic screen. Have you test fitted your screen and is it the same? Any ideas how to fit it? good luck with the build. I’m making mine in Ford Aporto red which is similar to an original colour. I will post some pictures when it is done

Don't know how Tim is getting on with it, sounds like the Record has been postponed to the French Fancy GB later this year. I'm visualising what you've got in front of you. You don't want to be distorting the frame, especially if you want to fit the roof to it. I'd say cut the transparency and do it in 2 separate pieces. I'll be interested to see what Tim finds with his kit

I'll be interested to see what Tim finds with his kit Thanks for the suggestion. It is slightly complicated by the fact that the screen is moulded with the dashboard as one piece (sounds strange and yes, it is slightly strange!) so I would end up having to cut it into 3 pieces and that comes with the risk of snapping it as the clear plastic is brittle. I am not putting the roof up option on so leaving it as an open top. I will mull it over for a while. in the meantime I feel I need to learn about the group builds. Group builds can be great motivation and a helpful "community effort". The trouble is they can be 2 years in the process from idea to actually happening! Some are much more specialised or even single subject type, but this Heller group has been epic. You can see what the current groups are and the start and finish dates. Good luck with the Talbot 👍
