Mottlemaster
Spured on with enthusiasm supplied by GREG DESTEC's superb desert camouflaged He 111 and then totaly being hooked by yet another Gregs entry in this G/B I have decided to do this aircraft useing the Classic Airframes kit { so i cant be accused of being a 100% plagiarist as Greg is useing the ICM kit . P1030499 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr I got this kit off ebay years ago . this seems like a now or never time to build it . It comes with a good size bag of resin . I think first job will be to wash this off . Just occured to me that i hace never built a Classic Airframes kit . I,m guessing it will be a similar experience to a Special hobby kit which i love . P1030501 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr The box has practicaly disintrgrated so sprues have been choped up and now secure in storage box P1030502 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Greg (NZ) gave me the lead on the peddinghaus decals . These are not cheap so after pressing the buy button there is no turning back . P1030503 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr P1030504 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr I have a little more work to finish my He 111 / Skua entry in the He111 STGB but will now make a slow start to satisfy my impatients. SoftScience
I love seeing CA models being built. They take a certain level of ingenuity and determination, which I feel I don't always have. I find these projects inspiring. I'll be following along closely.

Greg Law
Alistair I might not get to my until the end of the GB period. I have decided to do my one as a BOB build so I can complete my BOB collection. I do have a kit set aside for my desert/Med build. Anyway this way you get the audience to yourself.🙂 I will be watching with great interest.

They are a good level of kit to practice many skills like squeezing putty tubes and cleaning off flash and seams . Cleaning off the parts is probably around 25% of the time to complete the kit . Clsssic Airframes and ICM handle the airframe in comlpletly different ways . On 02/10/2020 at 18:16, Ozzy said: Welcome to the build Alistair, looks a nice box of goodies. Thanks Ozzy . Agree nothing like a bag of resin parts . The cockpit has been completed minus seat belts and IP . As the instructions say on every page " BE sure to dryfit and checkadjustment of parts during assembly . This is easier said than done with the small delecate parts of the pit . I have used Super glue where strength is needed and i could be sure of the position so no adjustment would be needed but forparts that may need careful positioning i have used 2 part appoxy to give me some time . P1030505 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Most of the cockpit parts ready for assembly after wasghing in soapy water . Cleaning up of these parts took best part of half a day . P1030506 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Instructions are not bad and not too cluterd with disapearing arrows . P1030507 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr the resin provides some nice deep detail and the radio equipment appears to have been well reserched . P1030508 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr I have some belts left over from my Special hobby he 115 so will use these . Next job to prime and then get the RLM 02 out for a spin.

On many parts its difficult to see where the kit stops and the flash begines . After a coat of halfords grey primer the RLM has been aplied . P1030527 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr I have left out the resin parts to the bomb bay as they slightly spread the width of the fuselage . I can now do a decent dry fit of all major parts and see how the best fit can be achieved . Mottlemaster
More progress on the Do 17z The assembly has been fairly easy but has taken much trimming ,sanding and cutting to get the gaps that need filling in an area where few panel lines get damaged . The good thing about this kit is the thick plastic which alowes a good strong glue bond and sanding to blend in ridges etc . The main join junction to sort out P1030534 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Top wing fuselage joint filled with plastic card and super glue/talk mix P1030532 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr I hope to get wheel bays finished today P1030531 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr P1030533 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Cockpit and instrument panel completed . Greg Law
Looking good Alistair. I was just wondering how you were getting on with this yesterday. I'm waiting for my new airbrush to arrive before mine gets a lick of paint. Hopefully this week. Mail between Australia and here is real slow at the moment.
Mottlemaster
I have had plenty of time this week to move on with the major parts . P1030539 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr P1030540 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr There have not been many places where a little filler has been needed but with the parts together im pleased with how everything lines up without any twists and bends . Just a few more parts to clean off ,and of course iv left the most difficult parts to last P1030542 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr Its going to take some care to avoid a Snap !
Mottlemaster
Masking off all the glazing with tamiya tape took the best part of two days ,after which attaching part c5 and 58 took an age of dry fitting ,followd by much sanding and scraping to get a reasonable fit to the fuselage . This was probably the most tricky part of the build sofar . these parts have been permenantly attached useing both Tamiya exra thin cement and some super glue . the nose , main cockpit glazing and bottom glazing have been temporaly attached with Kristal Clear so they can be removed later for placement of guns . Engines whent on with little problems so now almost ready for the main paintwork . P1030552 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr P1030553 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr have just gone over glazed areas with some tamiya 02 .
Greg Law
Looking good Alistair. I've been missing from the modelling bench for a few weeks. I think I had a BOB overload. I finally got back to the Dornier today and have sprayed the RLM65. I will be a bit slow though because I'm looking for a flat at the moment and I'm overload with work projects. So keep up the good work. I have moved my Do 17z project to WIP today.

Good luck with your flat hunting Greg. Anything involving property in the UK moves at glacial speed apart from the time your solicitor sends the invoice. I have invested somany hours in cleaning off seams on the Classic Airframes kit that I could have built a small log cabin. Looks like we are about the same stage of construction as I will be getting out the rlm65 this weekend. 48 minutes ago, CliffB said: The question is, is it theraputic or just a chore? Sometimes Cliff the only thing that keeps me going on a large masking job is knowing that when I'm finished I can look at the finished work and smile with the fact I've just saved £ 4.99 on pre made masks so 4.99 divided by 10 allows me to tell My wife that my hobby is making us money Seriously all stages of construction are theraputic, just some are more theraputic than others.
Mottlemaster
More movement towards completion . P1030559 by Alistair Pearce, on Flickr This has been one of the most difficult undercarriages that i have come across . Now securely in place with a coat of 02 on . Greg Law
Looking good Alistair. I got a flat. Two bedrooms with a good size lounge, a place in the kitchen area for my modelling table and a laundry in a concrete bunker where I can spray paint. Should be good. I move in next week. I just finished taking my glass cabinet apart ready to be wrapped in bubble wrap.

No model collection wouls survive more than a couple of miles on our local Devon roads , Some of the pot holes will soon be visitor attractions . Got some RLM 79 on today before realising it should probably be RLM 78 so will do another spray tomorrow . Sea
Very nice Alistair. I've been missing in action lately because of my big move. I'm finally almost done. My problem is I don't have the internet on yet. The last tenant appears to have taken the fiber connection box. I expect it won't be till after Christmas before I get it on. The move went well and all my built models are safe. Only a bomb fell off the He 111 and an aerial and a propeller off a Bf 109. Five minutes work to fix.
Greg Law
Well they have got me back on the internet again. Now I can annoy you guys again, I’ve discovered an issue with the move. I can't find my FW 200 Condor's props. Hopefully they will turn up.

Perhapse there is a strange southern hemisphere regulation that means that when you move you have to change your name . Infact i like the idea of that , a bit like a snake shedding its skin . Greg Law
Alistair I think that was a result of me using my phone on the first post. I haven't done that for years and it must be attached to an old login. My internet is now working and all will be normal from now on.
Mottlemaster
I'm going to call this one finished . I would only recomend this kit to people who like a challenge and dont have the newer ICM kit in their stash ( but do have this kit ) . I'm pleased to have completed it in time as i did get rather distracted by starting two Me 163's in the Interceptor G/B . Looking back i can see that i did spread myself to thin on 3 projects at the same time . This didnt alowe me enough time to interact to any degree with this G/B 😞 Im pleased with how its come out .
