Rules for determining size of British WW2 upper wing roundels

Could someone please help me with the rules governing the size of British WW2 upper surface roundels?  I've already discovered that they are centred at 1/3 span from the centreline (so 1/6 span from the tip for aircraft not given to losing their wingtips) but I seem to recall something about space from the leading edge and from control surfaces (2" rings a faint bell).  Can anyone put me straight?  It's for a Kingcobra as used by RAE: definitely not a standard type!

Thanks in advance.

Standard sizing was the wing chord between the leading edge of the wing and leading edge of the aileron less 2 inches at 1/6 wing span from the wing tip. The two inches to be 1 inch from the wing leading edge and 1 inch from the aileron leading edge

Of course there were a great many which differed to this.

Hmmm.  Must be a cricket term! 😉
