fatfingers
How do chaps, Was originally going to build a Dragon Sherman III in Kiwi markings for the GB but this caught my eye from the stash. Inside the box was a compliment slip from the vendor with the date of 2013 on it, didn't realise that I've had it this long! Hopefully this will get finished unlike my entry for the T34 GB that is still sat in its box for now! Made a couple of these over the years so no real surprises with the build. Started with he lower hull and such. And the upper hull. Spaced armour was a bit fiddly to put together but no real drama's. Turned my attention to the spinny shooty bit next. The metal barrel is from RB Models via ebay. Spaced armour frame for the mantlet. Turret with spaced armour fitted to the mantlet and sat sat on the hull. This is where I left to build for now and will hopefully make some progress this weekend. More to follow soon, Regards, Steve Edited November 19, 2020 by fatfingers
Ozzy
Welcome to the build Steve, I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together. Those figures will be a really nice addition.
fatfingers
Thanks Ozzy. I built one of the figures ages ago and it went together no problems. Just hope my figure painting skills are up to the job! Regards, Steve
fatfingers
How do chaps, Can't believe that it's about 5 weeks since i last did an update on the build but various things have been getting in the way etc. Pics below were taken a little while ago and I've only just got round to uploading them tonight. Turret has now been completed. Work done on the upper hull also completed apart from the various tools being added. These will be put on after I've painted them. Just need to add some etch grills to the air intakes after I've painted the insides black. All dry fitted together for a look see. Running gear all done and ready for paint. And now for a bit of a fettle with the Master Box figures. Instructions seem pretty straight forward enough. They have some nice poses and should go together ok. Decided to just go with three and leave Rommel out of this one. Had a bit of a play about with the positioning. They still need a fair bit of work in regards to clean up and some filling of gaps etc. Will hopefully get into the shed tomorrow to do this and also base coat the tank. More to follow soon (hopefully) Regards, Steve
PlaStix
Fantastic start Steve. I've got one of the earlier versions of this kit, without the figures, which I might make in the Pz.III STGB next year. I will bookmark your thread for future reference. Looking very good so far. Kind regards, Stix
fatfingers
Aye up Stix, Hope you and yours are keeping safe and well. Its a great kit with no problems or pit falls to catch you out. Managed to get the build just about finished over the weekend and its now in a coat of primer ready for paint. Will post up some pics later. fatfingers
How do chaps, Managed to forge ahead a bit more with the build. Figures just about built and as you can see a bit of filler was needed on some of the joins. Base coated the model and figures in some Stylinrez Grey Primer. The two blokes on the left look like they're either practicing Sumo or are having a farting competition of some sort! Had a rummage through my paint paint stocks and decided to go with this. Not 100% accurate I know but I do quite like the colour of it. The paint was thinned with Self-Levelling Thinner and went on nicely. A bit of this was also added to lighten it up a smidge. This is the result. Whilst this was drying I had a bash at one of the figures. He's painted with Games Workshop paints. I'm quite pleased with the results and he look presentable enough from a reasonable distance! Also made a start on the other two I will be using. I've tried to vary the colours of the uniforms as much as possible as i reckon there were a bit of a mish mash in the desert due to supply problems etc. Have to say imgur is being an even bigger PITA than usual today! I might have to find another hosting site that actually does what you want it to do without freezing up all the time! Hopefully will get some more done today. AdrianMF
Your standing figure looks really good. Nice shading on the clothes and the skin colours look realistic. ...not too sure about the Smurfs though! Regards, Adrian
modelling minion
Excellent job on the figure painting Steve, very realistic. 3 hours ago, fatfingers said: The two blokes on the left look like they're either practicing Sumo or are having a farting competition of some sort! Definitely a farting competition, all that trundling around the rough North African landscape in a hot metal box has clearly played havoc on their digestive system.
PlaStix
Hi Steve. Hope you and yours are keeping well. Fantastic progress on your Pz.III! The paintwork looks excellent - as do your figures. fatfingers
How do chaps, Well I've been motoring along with this over the past couple of weekends and here are the results... Tools painted and attached. Also managed to get the figures finished off and had a test fit of them on the turret etc. Whilst not show stopping I'm rather pleased with them. Close up of the turret sitter. He looks better from a distance and the 'lazy eye' isn't noticeable! Also started on the weathering and decided to go for a fairly clean 'new in theatre' look. Now, I always have trouble weathering light coloured vehicles so I had a read through the thread that @PlaStix is doing and snaffled one or two of his methods. The lower hull was given a light coating of Tamiya Earth Textured paint. This was dry brushed with various desert tones. Wheels were given a wash of thinned Mig Dust and dry brushed with Vallejo Desert Yellow. Tracks were base coated in Tamiya Dark Iron. It was then onto the turret markings. The Tamiya decals were quite thick and had a lot of carrier film and i didn't really want to do the kit with the box markings. So I had a rummage in the decal stash and came across a set of generic German vehicle masks. Decided to go with a number 5 and this was picked out in red for a bit of contrast to the sand colour. The model was then given a liberal going over with Mig Light European Earth Pigments to impart a nice dusty look. This also helped to toe the red down a bit. Wheels and tracks on and then a final dusting over of pigments and the build was done! I also decided to play about with the positioning of the figures as one of the stencilled 5's on the turret had smudged a bit so the sitting crewman was re-positioned so his leg hid this! I then decided that I wasn't happy with the position of the turret so this was spun to face the same direction of the figures. I also attached the model to an old resin base that I've had knocking around for a few years. This was given a quick tart up. The model is attached to the base via a screw through the hull bottom and into the base. Well I have to say I enjoyed this build and the GB helped me get some mojo back. Also made a nice change to paint a DAK tank instead of always going green! Will post up more pics in the gallery. Thanks to the GB hosts and all who have commented, liked and encouraged the bulid.
