Dermo245
Hi all, Jumping in with this one, Tamiya's rebox of Italeri's F3 Tornado. Decals will be from Xtradecal which are on the way! Tamiya F3 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr This will be my 3rd Tornado since getting back in the hobby - my first effort (and second kit made as an adult) was Italeri's GR1 from eight years ago - totally wrong paint colour, overdone weathering, messed up the decals.....not my best! Italeri172TornadoGR1Finished by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr So I kept building kits, learning tips along the way from good people here and in the club. My next was from five years ago, Revell's ECR in 'Boelcke' anniversary scheme.. Much better! . by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Looking forward to it. Cheers, Dermot Edited November 17, 2020 by Dermo245 Completed!

theplasticsurgeon
Nice one Dermot, and a great scheme. Best of luck with it. I see you've looked over my current Revell build - forewarned about the canopy frame. I built Red Zebra in 1/48 in 2013, sadly the photos in that link - well photobucket!

Dermo245
So a little bit done on the F3. Instrument panels.. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Tamiya Tornado F3 build 3 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr When doing some test fits, I found the lower fuselage was a little narrower in places. So added some braces from sprue to push them out just a little bit.. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 1 mod by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Then out with a candle and screwdriver to set the wing pivot. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 4 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Yep, happy with that! I've also added some nose weight. Peter W
Great start and love the scheme that you have chosen. It was a popular one when I built it in 48th scale for a previous Tornado group build. Pete

Andwil
Good idea using the sprue to spread the lower fuselage, I wish I had thought to do this with my Revell F3 (same ex Italeri mould), would have saved me a lot of bother with the seam. Dermo245
A few days off for mid-term so a bit more done.. After a shot of primer and my efforts at re-scribing.. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 4_primer by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Light grey on the lower surfaces, then masked up for Barley Grey Tamiya Tornado F3 build 5 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Kind of hard to see but it's there! Tamiya Tornado F3 build 6 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Barley Grey on the top & side surfaces.. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 7 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr A few small tidy ups here and there but then on to the nose, metal areas and wing-sweep. Thanks for looking. Dermo245
Thanks all and on to the main event - decals! Glossed up and ready to go. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 8 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr To their credit, there's a page of instructions with the decals on what order to place them so we start with the lower fuselage, from the back to front. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 9 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Mostly, they went on fine with really strong colours but were a little prone to cracking in places so some touching in with paint will be needed. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 10 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr On to the top. I found the tail decal to be a little too big so needs trimming. The kit stencils are also used and they went on great. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 11 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Will get the canopy finished tonight, then on to touch-ups and repairs! Thanks for looking. Dermo245
Thanks all and decals are done now with a final gloss coat.. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 11 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Decals were a little cracky in places, I think they could have done with a coat of Klear on the sheet beforehand. So there are some touch-ups with red paint here and there. Then, just a little panel line wash, nothing too heavy. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 12 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Final bits to add and she'll be done! Thanks for looking. Dermot
alhenderson
Looking lovely! Think I need to build an F.3... Al.
Dermo245
Home stretch now and she's on her feet. The main canopy was only tacked on so just tidying up the red decal on that. Tamiya Tornado F3 build 13 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Final bits like doors, aerials and she'll be done! Thanks for looking. Dermot
