090 - Bloo (Da Ba Dee)

Enzo the Magnificent

Recommended Posts

Yo listen up! Here's the story about a little kit that lives in a blue world. And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue.
Like him, inside and outside.

It's a very simple kit, presented in typical Heller style.  Very fine raised panel lines with nice restrained textures on the fabric control surfaces.  The cockpit is rather bare, but that shouldn't make much difference given the tiny canopy.  I may do something about that however.  The undercarriage bays are also bare and open to the wing interior.

The decals look like they may not be the best, so I will be using a sheet from Berna.

It may have Soviet stars on it, but everybody knows this is in French markings!  🇫🇷

Lovely addition there Enzo and I think you’re description of this kit is likely to be very similar to so many of Heller’s other classic kits. When you get to that point, I’m sure you’ll miss covering up all that gorgeous blue plastique’

Cheers and all the best.. Dave

Nice one Enzo, a favourite kit of mine way back when.

I just wish I'd remembered to wear my sunglasses to open this thread, it's so, well I believe the French phrase I'm looking for is sacré bleu!

Thanks for your participation, enjoy the build.

Had you done anything to that lovely blue plastic yet ?

I certainly have!

The cockpit was sprayed with Tamiya XF-71.  I added some random Eduard seatbelts and an instrument panel from Yahu.  I don't actually think much will be seen, but I'll know it's there.  :)

Main assembly complete and work has started on sorting out the joint lines.

Primed with my usual grey auto promer from a rattle can.

As you can see... this is not a big model!

Sprayed with Lifecolor UA-145 French Blue Grey.  I then masked the camouflage pattern with my trusted Blutak worms and masking tape patches, sealed with Copydex.

Next stage was to spray the darker grey.  I used Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey.

At this point I had a crisis of faith. I managed to convince myself that the neutral grey was far too light, so I oversprayed with a darker grey.  That looked far too dark, so I oversprayed with something else.  I did a lot of faffing around!  I'm quite good at that...   :banghead:

In the end, I found the perfect colour.  Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey.  :fool:

The bloo has gone.  But don't worry.  It will be back.

I forgot to add the radiator housing.  It is now fitted,
