Color of aerial target sleeve (banner) on Mosquito target tugs

Dear all,

Could someone help me :

I am in a project of a Belgian Mosquito TT6

I am stuck with one question

What was the color of the target banners (sleeves)  used on Mosquito target tugs (using ML aviation Type G winch)

I have got an "indirect" answer trough the Belgian old Pilots association that they were some of silver colored canvas or textile ,

what looks odd to me as silver in  blue sky is not very visible

Any answer or details welcomed !

Kind regards

bob verhegghen

Hi Bob , if it`s any help , I had two trips target-towing in the back seat of a Meteor 7 in `55 and the drogues were a rather

grubby white colour with a large black spot in the centre , the aiming point . Another thing which may be of interest ,

there were 4 X 7 pound weights fitted along one side of the banner , to keep it vertical in the air . I don`t know about

the towing gear , ( I never thought to look ) , but when the pilot flew the  kite in low over the airfield , at the end of the

sortie and released it , it was like being shot out of a catapult ! .

Thanks Don for those interesting comments;I think you are speaking of "flag" targets and not "sleeve" targets (some kind of cylinder larger at the end that at the front. But it's interesting as it shows that aerial targets were not necessarily red or a very visual color .
