SU-24M Fencer D - Trumpeter 1/48

Now that my Eagle is nearing the end, it’s time to start something new.  I have chosen the Trumpeter Su-24 because looking at some of the photos posted a while back in the Russian aircraft in Syria thread, it looks a purposeful beast. I’ll admit now, I know nothing of the type, I know nothing of the accuracy of the kit. Unfortunately I have no real time to get involved in complex shape changes, if there are any needed, and am going To work from photos along the way to try and get it basically right and fix any glaring omissions. Russian jets are a curiosity to me, not a passion and this is a relaxation build, not a super accurate museum piece.

The box. It’s massive and packed with loads of sprues, mainly, it would seem, for the armament. I’m not doing individual spruce shots, there’s too many!

Inside the box, there is another box with the fuselage half’s, seats, transparencies, whitemetal nosegear replacement, and other odds and sods.

There is a comprehensive 25 page book of instructions and two sheets of full colour painting guides.

So, where to start?  The destructions will have you start with the seats, each one made up from 11 parts and they come on their own sprues. They build up very nicely with more that adequate detail. Scuttles off to find pictures of Russian bang seats as painting guide says black...

They also ask you to start in on the cockpit tubs, so that was done...

So there we are, off and running. First impressions, everything is very crisply moulded with nice detail and minimal flash and mould lines, the bits I’ve looked at fit nicely and the plastic is easy to work with. Think I’m going to enjoy this...

Thanks for looking,

Steve
